Show off your coops!

Find some young, straight young cotton woods, debark them & then nail them on...it'll look like a lil' log cabin!

I recycled a broken trampoline to build my coop and run for my 9 chicks. I divided the ring of the trampoline into three equal sections and secured them to a 2 x 6 (that I salvaged from some shipping crates form work ) on each side with long screws, to form the basic frame for the run. I also used the legs from the trampoline to support the coop, witch was also framed with salvaged crate lumber. I covered the exterior of the coop with old barn lumber that a friend gave me that he had piled back in his field. I all I have less then fifty dollars in the coop and run. I also used the mat from the trampoline for a sun shade over the run.

I just finished the "expansion" section last weekend, and am very proud of the fact that I only spent $8 by using almost all re-used or leftover materials. Now I just need my other 2 birds. Or maybe three more....who's counting, really? Still gotta build a ramp - next week.

Design from BasicLiving.
Still need to finish putting up trim and paint trim, put up the coop sign and thermometer... then make an expansion (darned chicken math!)
But here she is and fully functional:

Here is my current coop, it fits two standard hens, which is what I have.

But of COURSE who can have JUST two chickens?! Not I. So this will be used as my 'teenage bunk' and the older girls will have a new wonderful coop I am getting from a WONDERFUL lady off BYC

This coop works for the time being though and the girls LOVE it. Here are pictures from start to finish, except the roof, that was added after these pictures.
