I hatched a few more yellow chicks.

They are around 4 months old Cindy, I'm not positive, I had rolling hatches going on with other breeds in there too and did these as an after thought. They are from the same breeding as your birds. These are the only 2 I have kept so far, and I intend to replace 2 of the hens with these. I'll have a total of 3 breeding females next year!! With better results I hope. I had to cull a lot of birds to get these. They were in the pen with your Aussies. ......stan
I am glad I didn't get the older Delawares. You know so much more about breeding than I do, so I know those pretty birds will be put to good use. I am really excited that they are from the same breeders. I know now I will get some good open tails down the road if I work at it. If yours are 4 months, I should know in another month what kind of tails I am going to get. Mine are just starting to get their tail feathers. Seems like I read somewhere that open tail feathers are related to egg production. I don't know if it is true, but if it is, those 3 breeders will give you lots of eggs. I can't wait to see the next generation. Good job Stan.

I won't give up on having Delawares. I will probably get some eggs to hatch within a month or so. I've had one offer to send some (which I still need to reply to) and found a possible source locally. I've hatched ducks and button quail in the past, can't remember if I hatched chicken eggs. I'm sure not much has changed since then.

Not sure yet about the two I have. Someone offered to take them, but he's not very educated in chicken. He already has a rooster (they look like game birds) and the "coop" for the 7 or so small birds he already has is not more or probably not even 3' x 3'. Have to wiggle may way out of that one, being someone I've know for some time (hair stylist) and don't want to hurt his feeling or make him feel like he doesn't know anything. Had to convince him two roosters would NOT work out. Trying to convince him he needs a MUCH bigger coop would be tough. I want the right home for this pair, so I'll figure something out. When he moves to the country, maybe I'll hatch him some eggs.
