I like her, too. I don't like her "brown nose," though. I have to keep telling myself that I am not working on "painting the barn," yet. I hope I can work with her and I hope I can get rid of the Columbian necklace...

While she is a striking color, I am looking at width of back, feather quality and general body.......... along with the other females pictured I think you are about ready to paint the barn. Just get out your chicken color calculator and it should be a snap. How dark is the undercolor of the bird I like? The outer markings look like it would be a dark slate, but that is not always the case.

I don't think that the under color should be blue or slate that is one of the definite differences of a Columbian patterned bird and a Delaware the under color of a Del should be white. That is the dang if you, do dang if you don't, to use those Columbian patterned pullets as breeders. I think when it is getting close enough to time in the barn painting to use the correctly stippled neck pullets as breeders, thing is she only has few that have yellow shanks which I think the green/willow shank is an "worser" evil than Columbian striped hackles right at this juncture. (just sayin') LOL

Oh and I'm not an expert or tying to sound as one either, I just remember this discussion from some time back.(just sayin' here too) LOL

Oh and I agree to on all the good points of her you mentioned too, nice looking girl

Well, I went out a little before lock up time and looked around a bit, at the older birds. I noticed this - there must be something to it -
The females with the barring in their neck also have barring in their tails (though that may grow out, as I have seen it before) AND they have less yellow legs (some are even a little greenish and some are some are alot greenish). The females with the Columbian neck - have bright yellow legs, and nice black in their tails. AND, I think the pullets with the Columbian necks have better type, too - so far (they may be a couple weeks older, too).

Notice the leg coloring here..... (this leg coloring thing bugs me)....

This one has very little (light) barring...

They sure are pretty though. For layers it would not be such a problem. But i can understand your concern in getting them just right. I wish i lived closer to get some of your culls for layers. You are so close to your goals. Gloria jean

I haven't posted in quite a while. I am still working on my Dels. I have about 30 hens now that I need to start culling. I feel that some are an improvement over what I had last year (specifically looking at the pinched tail problems that I was dealing with). I hope to get some pics up soon!
