Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Right now Kathy is going through a really tough time of morning for a son. But she is also cutting down on her flock so maybe she has some extras ???? I don't know. Take care.

Thanks for mentioning that - I meant to include that. But many people have birds of her line, so you may be able to use her name a search starting point to find someone else.

I for one do very much want to get some of Kathys latest lines. I can relate to her problems though so will wait.

I have some of her older line, and my first incubator bunch had a power outage for four hours and I only got 9 out of 41 eggs hatched.

Of these 2 are Delawares, of different colors, one is very dark, with some silver penciling showing now, and the other was white with dark feathers on the wing, that has increased now to mixed dark on the wings, a dark spot on the head. The rooster is the normal Delaware coloring as are the hens. So it is going to be interesting seeing how they develop. I have two more groups incubating now and will be interested to see how they develop.

These are of the older cross lines, and a project in development as far as I am concerned.

But fascinating.

Yup, thats how I feel about them. Very active little guys, giving the others a run for their money. About sat. the all go to the outside brooder, by then there will be hatches in the inside brooder totes. The light colored one is getting darker and the dark one getting penciling. Fascinating to watch.

Yes they are. And I noticed that the greenish legs are turning more yellow as they are getting older. Most of them are the friendly birds I have ever raised. I can't go in there pen to feed them with them not jumping all over me. LOL

Mine are really friendly, too! They run/flap over to me whenever I go near their pen, but unfortunately, they have developed a terrible habit of "tasting" me. They mostly go after fingers, but they also peck at clothes, arms, and legs. One cut my husband's lip the other day when he reached into their pen for a dish. I don't think they have malicious intentions, but they do know that we are the source of food and are thus just making sure we're not hiding anything. Maybe they're just hoping for a treat, but it's been several weeks since we last hand-fed them anything. Another chicken owner suggested we try a spray bottle to discourage them. We'll see how that works. I hope it doesn't make them avoid us, though!

Can anyone tell me why my girl is developing a Mohawk down her back? Is it just a feather anomaly or sign of something else?
Also, worried "she" is not a pullet as sexed. Legs and feet look right but comb seems to be coming in large for a 7-weeker. This is our first Delaware

.

"Her" feathers look normal, nothing out of the ordinary for a growing chick.

However... that comb does look a bit big for a 7 week old pullet, if it keeps getting larger she just might be a he.
