Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Kathy, the barring in the females should always molt out. Gracie had several nicely barred tailfeathers. Now, they are gone and she has some decent tail black.

Kira doesn't seem to be eggbound. She is standing around hunched up so we brought her inside, removed a bunch of packed dirt from one nare (dang, wonder how on earth she could even breathe?), and checked her over. I think her abdomen feels too "full", not tight like Olivia's, but too rounded pouchy, if you know what I mean. We started her on penicillin because I think if she has egg material causing an infection in there, it must have just started a few days ago. She did lay an egg at the beginning of this week, so must have started after that. Maybe we caught it in time.

Cynthia, let's hope you caught it! She is in my prayers.

Kathy-you could always udate us with pictures!

Cetawin, I really hope some of mine will end up doing that- Kathy said she has one that jumps in her lap, also. Dang! I wish this snow would melt so I can get the run done and get them into the coop -

BTW, I had to have my big old Oreo cat put down this morning. He had blood clots in his lungs and a huge one that appeared to have cut off blood supply to his hind legs. I found him laying out in the snow about 1/2 hour after I let him out - crying, breathing hard and unable to move. This has been a rotten few weeks for losing my feathered or furry family members!

I am so sorry about Oreo I know how hard it is to do that but always remember you did the right thing for the pet.

Cyn, gosh I hope Kira snaps out of this.

I finally weighed and tagged my cockerels from Bill Braden.

Theses are the ones I am putting up for sale. I am keeping 4 others for now. I have a couple of others that are smaller and have really bad combs. If it would ever quit raining, I'll get the pullets done, too.

Thank you, Cyn and Cetawin; it was the best thing for him, he was in pain, and there isn't anything you can do about it, so best to do it quickly. I have been snuggling with the other kitties and the chicks - Buckshot and Ultrasuede each got to come out of the brooder and sit in my lap - I don't know why I didn't think to take a chair out there before.

HighSpringsChix -Those are nice roos- looks like you have some really good markings. Is that normal weight for that age, or are they particularly big?

For those who do not remember Jake, my first Delaware cockerel (unrelated to Isaac, but he is Kira's half brother), thought I'd post one of the last pics I had of him. To his credit, he had very nice tail barring, to me the perfect balance of light and dark, and he had good hackle color and leg color. He wasn't quite as large as Isaac at that age, if I remember right, and you can see taht his comb is nowhere near as nice as Isaac's nor his wing carriage, but here is Jake, who was culled at 24 weeks old due to temperament issues.

Oh Beth, I just saw this. I am so sorry about Oreo. That is so heartbreaking. They get to be family (sometimes like them more than family!)

But when they are suffering so it is so much kinder to let them go. Hugs to you.
