Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Oh, Jeremy, I am soooo soooo sorry! That is just awful.

I do plan to ship chicks, when my Orps are older and laying. Mine are still just babies for now. Just keep in touch, and we can work out something for you to have Orps.

I hope your June 1st hatch goes well for ya.

Thank you so very much Kathy!

We'll definitely stay in touch throughout the year and I'm sure into the next. By that time I'll have started my breeding flocks and will be able to accurately gauge how many more birds I can accommodate. I'd love to have some of your Orps.

We were going to name her Lena, after Lena Horne, the blues artist that just passed... tragic foreshadowing? Maybe we should have picked a different name.

Thank you ladies for the proper amount and cooing and fainting over my new beautimus babies....

Jeremy I am so sorry about your little one....it really bothers me when I cannot figure out why I lose one but sometimes it is just not their time to be here with us.

Let's talk about dirty birds....OMG it poured, thundered and the lightening was horrid here all morning. it cleared up and I put the yelling crew out...they had a fine day and just before time to go night night the skies opened up....wet chickens. rain combined with mud and my dellies were very very dirty....Thor was not looking too attractive either having been covered in dirt from dustbathing which was then wet. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww Silly birds.

And I feel the need to mention this again, having just spent 24 minutes waiting for BYC to load up... HUGHESNET BITES!!!! I hate it, depisre it and loathe it.

And on that....good night to you all. It will probably take half an hour for BYC to close now.

Im so sorry. All of the excitement of that special little baby and then that. But don't give up for good. I sure can understand not wanting to hatch anymore this year, a little break is in order. But don't give up on hatching......next year will be better

Jeremy, I am SO sorry little Lena (or Lennie?) didn't make it. I would be heartbroken- if you get sentimental and want Suede bloodlines and he is not -ahem- or rather, perhaps I should say if he is peacefully settling into retirement next year, (hiding from Cetawin in case she thinks I am casting slurs on Suede
hide.gif
) I would have Suede grand-eggs to send you, if you like. I have my beautiful Ultrasuede, and two Suede daughters, Silk and Satin- all blues.

Del lovers- do all your kids roost? Mine will NOT roost- they all pile on top of Ultrasuede in one of the nest boxes EVERY night- Luke included- I even stood in the doorway with a flashlight and food last night, coaxed them all out, made sure they ate and drank, started to dim the flashlight so they would go to bed, and they all piled back into the nesting box. AND IT'S A FLOOR LEVEL BOX. I have one hen that roosts on the edge of the upper nesting box. Do I just have weird kids, or what? I was thinking maybe their food and water was too close to the roosts and I should take them out at night? Did I let them nap on my lap too much when they were little, and they think they need to pile up to sleep?

Cetawin, I am so sorry you are getting "skwood" by HughesNet. Yuck. Does it cost to break the contract? Isn't ATT doing anything out your way with DSL? What about Direct TV? Don't they also have a computer package?

Beth,
I know exactly what you are saying! I fianlly made a roost just a foot off the floor, and now they are roosting on it. Well, most of them are anyway. Some still just sit beside it. Funny thing is, when they were in a different pen they all did roost, and it was much higher. Crazy chickens!

Hello everyone!!! I have been a bad, bad message board person lately by not posting

I have been very busy helping my husband build the new coop and going to doctor appointments for my pregnancy (normal stuff, everything is good).....I had a spare minute and thought I would drop by and say hi!!!

Our chicken coop is almost finished and soon the Delaware babies can move in!!!! I re-homed all except one roo from my first hatch (which is from Cyn) - Norbit was the keeper and is now 15 weeks old and starting to really mature. I have 6 pullets that are 7 weeks old and also added 2 Leghorn pullets for fun - I figured since the Dellies kept starting with the wavy combs, I would go all out and get some that are supposed to flop over!!!

I have been having some computer troubles and unable to upload my pics, but I have taken a lot and as soon as the computer doctor has some time to check things out, I will post those!!!

I hope everyone is doing well!!!

Dog "talking" to us wanting attention....S talks to Casca on the phone and tells him he is silly, Casca looks at the phone cocking his head and then barks and goes looking for S

A typical day and a typical attempt at a normal conversation without chicken and dog interruption. Not gonna happen.

So...how was everyone else's day with delaware children?
