Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

I have a no-return policy myself. Do you really not know why they're in there? My DH would send them on their way with the roosters they brought, then disinfect the entire 5 acres.

Ike seems to be doing well. He isn't getting picked at much it seems-maybe he finally laid down the law to those wenches. We need to check his toe out closer, but it appears okay. He isn't limping. Gosh, I have so much "rooster maintenance" to do! Ike needs his toe checked and his beak trimmed, Zane needs his beak trimmed, have to check Suede's foot since he keeps picking at the bottom of it, etc. Always something, isn't it?

Panda has a Fern baby hatched and a Smoky egg pipped.

Morning all

Serrin....thanks for the tip about the ammonia. I always keep it around for disinfecting brooder pens, etc so I'll TRY to remember that trick next time I get stung. I got into red wasps a few weeks back and one got me on the inside of my lip....big OUCH. My lower lip looked like I had a botox injection!!

Well, I located the yellow jacket nest this morning. It will be "gas" for them tonight. It wasn't where it thought it was so I'm glad I went out and located it this morning.

Pepper and his girls were happy about the "yellow jacket" incident....they were able to get out and free range for a few hours before bedtime. BTW - I'm on Day 10 today incubating a batch of Dels (16) for JamesA

Supposed to be really hot here today (and all the way thru the weekend with little chance of rain)....I already have the soaker hose "misting" the pens. I've been pretty fortunate so far with the heat. Only loss I've had was a couple of chicks, but no grown birds. My Dels and my CRs seem to tolerate this heat pretty well (guess white feathers definitely help). Coops are completely shaded from about 10am on so that is a blessing too.

I saw the mama deer and her babies again this morning. She was also with one of her "fawns" (now a young adult deer) that she had last yr. They were out in the food plot. My coops all face the plot and EVERY chicken was at the wire looking at those "strange creatures" eating "their food".

Everyone stay cool and have a great "hump" day

Kathy would never do that to you, Amy. She is too sweet. She threatened me with turkens for a while, but they never showed up. But do remember, you said you wanted Delawares!

Emma (Dellie baby) and Belle were perched on top of Harriet's back when I went to check them a few minutes ago- I have to remember to just take the camera with me when I go, I am missing all shorts of cuteness.

If I EVER say I am going to build another coop by myself, will you all send Cetawin over here with a gun and just shoot me?

Is it really that bad dear?

Poor Beth. If it's any consolation, I'll probably be joining you in that solitary effort very soon. DH isn't thrilled with the notion of building three smallish coops for my extra boys, so that they can have little flocks of their own. Not even the promise of quieter boys seems to be stirring him to action.

*sigh* Yes, I'm feeling like the little red hen here!

No I will not come shoot you...I might however assist in the building of the coop.

I am an enabler remember?

Serrin. re: Chy finding those who pass on - She says it is because none of them would dare die on me.

Little duckie just was not thriving sadly but he had 2 very spoiled weeks, I honestly expected to lose him sooner. Poor little guy.

Smoky and Suede are parents once again! Panda hatched the other egg and the baby definitely looks blue!

Beth, cross your fingers for a pullet for you.

Smoky is so confused. She sits on her egg for a couple hours, then gets off and wanders outside. Guess she's not really into this broody thing.

Me again....

I asked the breeder of the BRs I have right now for some advise on "culling and what to keep for breeding purposes". He referred me here

http://albc-usa.org/EducationalResources/chickens.html

And said to read and put into practice Chptrs 1, 2 and 3

He did offer to help me using photos, etc via phone call later, but that "this" was good information

Its a quick read....might be worth a look

Scott that is a great link..thank you.

Cyn...maybe Smoky thinks there should be more eggs in there for her to sit on? YAY a blue baby under Panda...how fabulous.

Well, I have a third duck Broody...she is sitting on at least 4 eggs...the other two are duo sitting on at least 5 and every one of them is hissing and trying to bite! I am just letting them sit...I am in no mood to try to break 3 broody ducks.

On a Dellie note - Cannonball almost did my MIL in yesterday *snicker*. She and I were leaving to go take my hubby out to dinner and Cannonball was running to catch me..when I closed the truck door, she ran under the truck to the other side. MIL was sitting with the door open, putting on her seatbelt. As she reached for the door handle to pull it closed Cannonball launched herself up into the truck and onto my MIL who promptly started screaming! Cannonball was yelling and flapping and so was my MIL.

Once I stopped laughing *smirk* I grabbed the crazy Dellie and handed her off to Cheyenne who was also laughing like a loon then I look seriously has my disgruntled MIL and said "That is your son's chicken and she likes to go for rides

That was better than stuffing her mouth with a nectarine and shoving her ina freezer at the grocery store and all this amusement given to me by a Delaware. YAY DELLIES!!!
