Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Well....lunchtime "hatch update". 8 have hatched. 4 pure Dels and 4 Del crosses. The other 4 are pipped, hopefully they're just resting.

The little "cross" chicks are very cute. Almost a silvery-blue color. Weird though, they have pinkish legs (Daddy is Pepper the Del roo, mamas are a blue rock and a splash rock...all three yellow legged. Gosh darn it genetics are a weird thing!). The Dels, all have BRIGHT yellow legs as they should.

If hatch finishes today and I can get them into the brooder pen, I'll get pix posted. Otherwise, might be tomorrow. VERY hard to shoot photos into that Sportsman

Sun has JUST poked thru so temps here have been quite nice today....low 80s maybe.

Here is Belle- I made a thread questioning the brown coming in on her shoulders- it looks like barring? but have not received any answers as to why/where/who dunnit.

The cuckoo pattern is not considered barring, right? It's more random? I still need a different name for Spot -

I sat in there long enough that Boo forgot he needs to be mysterious-

Harriet is still taking good care of them - she pecks me if I pick one up- not very hard, just enough to remind me she is watching.

And the ugly, crooked, made it myself toobadsosad coop. The doors are drying in the horse barn and I should get them on tonight.

Beth,
I can't shoot it ..... I am scared to get that close! I am afraid of a mouse, too! Neighbor is coming. He skins them and sells them. Last year I caught 7, so I imagine this is just the start .... gotta get the whole family.

I love your coop. You did a great job! Good for you!

Now, get started on the next one.

Your pictures are great! They are fat little fluffy butts! Mama Harriet is doing a great job, isn't she. My broody mama gave up on her chicks, and started tossing them here and there, so is outta there and back with the flock.

Kathy- your Light Sussex? She was an early quitter, huh? I don't blame you about the coon- I always worry they are rabid! Hope your neighbor gets it out of there QUICK!!

Cynthia, I was wondering if the brown came from the Del side, too - but isn't it strange it would pop up from that far back! Genetics. I tell ya! I am hoping she will be good company for Lizzie in a few months. Liz, much as she snuggles with Luke at night, needs to NOT bear the burden, her legs are too weak and probably always will be. She still walks very carefully and spends WAY too much time lying down, compared to the others.

Ahhhhh....so I learned yet something ELSE today!

Thanks Cyn
