Well for some fun I set a couple of eggs from my hatchery Dels the rooster looks nice but the hens are not so good I picked eggs from the 2 best layers so if I get a pullet she should lay well....I'm trying to see what happens with the pattern one of those hens has a lot of Columbian by the looks of it anyways...

The Dellies I hatched out are so nice those pullets are laying big brown eggs with those purple/plum spots when I get some time I'm going to get some pictures I have a couple that should give me nice chicks they are wide and the coloring is pretty nice and they are heavy I'm trying to figure out how to weigh them without being mean as I have that fish scale but I don't know if they will stay in a bucket I thought about making a sling with a gunny sack those pullets are so friendly and they have always been easy to pick up more so now that they are laying....

One early bird is totally hatched out. I hear more peeping in the hatcher. I see one large pip, from the biggest egg, that is all bloody. I have heard of that before, but have never had it happen to me. I hope this one makes it, as I am sure it will be a large chick.

Oooppps, I mean 2 are totally hatched!

Ain't it fun when they all start coming out at once! I swear they hear their clutch mates hatching and can't wait to join the party!

How many eggs total are in this batch Kathy? How did they look when you candled at lock down? Did it look like you might get all of them? Am I safe in assuming that these are all Del's in the 'bator?

Yes I got 5 from sand hill this year. The lone roo looks just like yours. One hen is Deli barred but has a greenish tinge to the legs. the 3 other girls show the columbian cross v's instead of barring and have bright yellow legs.

I will say sand hill pullets grow very fast and are blocky. the roo, not so much.

While disappointing, the pullets are quite friendly and will join the laying flock.

As SpeckledHen mentioned a few pages back, we are all just going to have to keep working with the breed when we can. Don't let the good individuals out there get any further mixed. If you have to give up good Dels, get them to someone who can keep working with them.

Just use your bathroom scale and minus your weight.

Bassleg that fish scale is way easier than trying to find a place with no dust and level for my bathroom one I don't think they'll mind the gunny sack anyways I'm going for it this weekend only bad thing is the leg bands I ordered are too tight my girls must have thick legs.....This is a type cull then color since none of mine are perfect in the color department though many have a nice wide tee pee and yellow legs I'm hoping that they will run on the heavy side I want mine big for good eating since it looks like I'll be culling heavy for color....oh well you gotta work with what you have
