Yep. that's exactly how it went. My fiance is watching something on VH1 and TLC was on there and I had a flash back to middle school which of course, knocked me off my train of thought.

I didn't know about the mind-control thing when we got our chicks... so it's too late for me! Here's a tired little girl:

Some of the Dels, about 2/3 grown, mixed in with less-desirable breeds!

One of the grown girls, though not yet laying; here she has just finished preening and is all fluffed up!

And finally...

here is the Lord of the Yard, Sexxy Rexxy, the best cockerel out of the 6 we started with:

He's a good rooster in almost every way, except he and Chester (a Partridge Rock) start crowing their fool heads off at around 3:30 AM... Rexx makes up for it by being good with the girls, giving them treats and making cute noises, and knocking Chester off whenever he grabs a pullet that isn't ready yet! If she squawks, Rexx comes running and just slams into Chester, pretty funny.

We might try letting some of the hens brood next year, see how it goes...
