Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Thanks for the kind words.

No way to know for sure if she might have been eggbound. Her eggs look so similar to my Buff Orpington's eggs so I don't know which of them laid. Since it was Christmas morning, I wasn't around as much to see who was on the nesting spot.

But I do know that she laid the day before. Can a chicken die from being eggbound in a matter of 24 hours or less?

She had been making such a racket for several days - she was making this huge honking noise for long periods of time and I just assumed it was her way of communicating, but now I wonder if she might have been in pain.

The coop is not all that big inside - they do their running around outside in the pen. I suppose it's possible that she raced in from the pen and ran into something, but it would be highly unusual.

The other three are fine as of this moment, so that leaves me thinking she was somehow poisoned or choked on something. Very hard to imagine how that happened, though, either. It's going to haunt us for a very long time...

I don't have a clue about Lily, it is puzzling.

aw Kathy you have got me looking forward to the day I get to hatch out Delies! how meny are you up to now, Dels and others?

congrats Laney!

well Sweetheart was still unhappy about being in the brooder, so for right now they are all together. I'll put her back in it at dark so I know she is getting the food she needs. Her head is healing better then I would have thought, and the swelling is way down on her face now. She is my buddy for life now, every time I stop she is standing on my foot.
they are molting now and the lighter pullet has one black feather where her tail should be, it looks so silly. I have named her Budgie she kinda looks like one at times, and she reminds me of some a friend of mine had.

here is another shot of the bunch, I love it when it's this clean!

I hope to be hatching soon, I have a lady that wants hatching eggs from me. I tried to stear her towards someone with better stock, but she said she wants to help improve mine, so I hope it works out!! Kathy, good luck with your babies! They are simply precious!

Bawketc. It's about the most helpless feeling in the world when you look backward and try to interpret what an animal might have been trying to tell you. I have a few stories that stay in my heart also- again, my sympathy!

Crazylady-Tankers has some great looking tail feathers there, doesn't he? I really do look forward to all of us keeping up with each other's Dellies-watching them all grow is so much fun!!!!

Cynthia, how is the situation with Isaac and the naughty girls? Still just putting him out in the mornings? Are they being more amorous?

Delgirl- you could have fun working with that person - I do think the slogan ought to be the one about Dellie World Domination!

yea so far Tank is the best of the bunch as far as typ gos, but he is the shy one. Tonka's tail has real dark barring. and as it turns out Sweetheart is light framed & dark while Budgie is heave and light color {note the washed out legs} so that makes breeding plans easy for now lol. the girls did have nice lacing, but they are all in molt so.....

and to think I got them on sale, but deal I've made so far

Delgirl I know what your saying about the coop, man it got nasty quick. I had to keep them up for 3 days, then today they looked at me like you want us to go out there! the girl did not mind it too much, but those spoiled boys

Wow...so much happens in a couple days away...for the Dellie thread, 5 pages back.

Kathyinmo - what a great hatch you had...and a Suede and Meg baby to boot. Most excellent. I have just about recovered from the flu and the holidays and will be getting coffee samples out this week.

Cetawin.....tell ya what, once you get to KENTUCKY (the RIGHT side of the US) I'll have hatched a few more and I'll get you one (or two, or three....). Deer season in Oregon is a bit intriguing, but DARN thats a long drive!!!

Happy New Year!

Yard full of "it"

Cetawin,
Sorry you had the flu!!!! Yuck. AND about the time you get to Kentucky I, too, will have an Ike son or two or three or more ready to rehome- so you will have plenty of choices and your DH will just have to bond with a slightly older birdie!

I have had to start the beak grabbing thing- I now have several little darlings (read that as BRATS)
who grab and hang on. . . . .my clothes, my hair, my skin. . . .ouch!!!! I am considering a full suit of armor. But they still all come around for a chest rub or a pick up. . .
