Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

There is no such thing as a "Giant" Delaware. Sure, the ones I see on the ads are meaty, but I think they have been culled for body type. Someone just made that up as a marketing ploy. Never have seen that terminology anywhere else.

Hi Cetawin:

I didn't know you were a fellow Oregonian......I just started coming here this week and have enjoyed reading the post.......my main task has been pestering Speckledhen about getting some Delaware eggs.............I'm between Bend and Redmond....what part of the State are you in? I raised my family in the Coast Range near Yahats..........

I got more delawares.

I bought a Bill Braden line roo and three pullets from Highspringchix. They are very nice. They fit right in with no issues with my delawares from Cynthia.I put leg bands on them so I can keep them separated.I am not sure how I am going to breed them or keep them as 2 seperate lines.I will be thinking on it while they finish growing out.Any suggestions?

I feel your pain James. I have 3 breeds of project birds (RIR, BBS Orps and of course Dels) that I need to house in different places so that I don't get all of those brown eggs confused. Now add to the mix that I have 2 lines of Dels and want to keep them cooped seperately so I can selectively cross breed the lines or keep them seperate. Our solution right now is 2 coops with 2 sub-sections (one breeder pen and one "baby" section for young-ins. So one group will go into each section for now. DH said to me TODAY, we need to build an other coop when the weather gets warmer. (

ETA: I saw those Dels you just got posted for sale. Bill Braden is big in the world of Dels, so enjoy

Thank God someone else said it. I hate... HATE... when people advertise "giant" delawares. They are standards... big standards, but not giants. Especially "giant guy" (that's what I call him) on ebay. Claims he has 20 hens.. ok... but offers 60+ eggs at a time (multiple listings) sometimes. (yes, I watch and keep up)

Sorry. Pet peeve.

Hiya Vexor! I am down south...Cave Junction which is Grants Pass area. I am about 9 miles up the road from the Oregon Caves National Park and Chalet. Let me know if you need a couple handsome little roos...(EE/SLW and a EE/Blue Cochin. They need homes....Unfortunately I cannot part with my 2 Dellies from speckledhen's stock...but there are days if you catch me right fattie would go home with you....normally those moments are after she has bitten me thinking something looked tasty.

But I love the little toe rag.

Enjoy Oregon I am moving in 2 months to a place closer to speckledhen and her flock.... muahahahahahahaha She will never what happened until she opens her Orp coop to find me in there hugging her big ole rooster and feeding him baked goodies and such.

James there is no such thing as a Giant Delaware, unless you are talking about Isaac...he is a pretty big boy. Another of my favorite ebay seller lies is advertising Jersy Giants as a Giant Australorp.

It does indeed. I report them. I have been an ebay seller for many years and those blatant lies/uninformed/misleading statements tick me off. I always email them first explaining the inaccuracy and where they can verify their information and so forth...if the listing stays or they repeat it, I report them.

JAMESA!!!!

Good for you! I saw the pictures and they were beautiful birds- I agree, BUILD MORE COOPS!

Cynthia, do you have electricity? We have sleet here now, but, TG, we still have power.

Cetawin, if you have forgiven me for teasing about the blueberry pancake, I am going to request a picture of you huddled up in Suede's coop, hand feeding him. I can use it every time my DH shakes his head at ME when I make treats and hand feed my babies. I can prove I am not alone.

Kathy, Laney - how's the weather? Scott, did you ever get any?

There are a LOT of people on ebay who play on other people's ignorance/innocence/naivety. Good for y'all for reporting them.
