I just got in from doing chores and playing with the babies out there, just a bit ago. I see your pictures Beth, and they look so familiar! ha OK ... I'm goin' back out, to get some pictures.

Beth, I agree with Cyn. That little roo in the back looks the best. It is so neat to see Ike sons. That Ultrasuede is a looker. I remember a picture of Suede about that age and he looked very similar from what I recall. They are all nice looking birds Beth...you must be a good Chicken mama. If it makes you feel any better, Thor just starting taking food from my hand about a week and a half ago. He did as a baby and then about 2 weeks old he stopped....and at 20 weeks he decided it was safe to take stuff from me. LOL

Cetawin, that is a true compliment to Ultrasuede, coming from his Daddy's biggest fan!!! I hope I am a good chicken mama, but ya gotta hand a lot to the good genes and the good health of Ike and his girls! And that latter part is all due to Cynthia's fantastic care of her kids.

And that does make me feel better knowing Thor has been a bit of a stinker that way, too.

Cynthia, I am glad you think they are all broad chested- I keep hoping I am not becoming barn blind!

Kathy- yes! Pics! Ours are very close in age - I would love to compare.

Do you all think I can keep two Del roosters with 9 hens? Or would they set up too much competition? I will get Ultrasuede his own women, but I would love to keep Buckshot as a back up roo if nothing else.

Beth it depends...for example. I could keep Thor and Severus together with a group of girls no problem. However, it would be a bloodbath if I left Thor and Sirius or Draco together with a group of girls. I would see how the boys are behaving together. Is Buckshot pretty laid back or is he determined to be #1 and pushing for it? Many people have multiple roos together with a flock...it really depends on the roos.

I agree genetics and Cyn's good care of her flock gave us great babies. But the aftercare they receive from the home she sends them too is just as important. There is a marked difference in birds that are loved and well-cared for than those who are merely fed and watered. I am may be crazy but I have seen it time and time again.

Tori, that is really white! I've never had one that white to my knowledge. Should be interesting to see how it develops.

Wow that is a white baby. Pretty. It will be interesting to see how that baby turns out.

I think you're right in their place in the ranking there--# 1 is your best of that bunch so far-- is going to have beautiful hackles! His tail looks similar to his dad's, not solid like a couple of the others, but definitely on the dark side. Did you get any with just 5 comb points? Even if #1 has six points, he's your best one at this time. It's still too early to pick your final one, but you could probably narrow it down to three or four. Gracie has a great comb and I was hoping you'd get at least one boy that would be as good as Isaac and have that great comb Gracie has.

#2 and 5 have nice tail barring. I'd say that #3, 4 and 6 would be culled if they were here. I don't see them improving enough to compete with the others, from those pics, anyway.


****I sent Janet the link to your post and she agrees that #1 is very good. #2 isn't bad, but you may have better luck with that second batch you hatched, Kathy. The rest are not up to snuff for sons of Ike. Just the luck of the draw, genetics-wise, I suppose! How is the second batch coming along?
