Personally, I like roo #2. He is not as "good" as roo #1 but his overall look is more appealing to me because of his eyes and symmetry of his comb even though it is not as defined as roo #1's. I think it is the sweet look in his eyes that draw me to him more. Number 4 and 6 would be culls for me no doubt. Number 3 and 5 would be pets or stew, depending on their personality and appearance at 20 weeks or so.

Cyn is the expert by far so follow her reccomendations not my sentimental ones.

Oohhh I can feel myself having a thing for Ellie's Chick.... The coloring is beautiful, wing looks to be held very nicely. Comb looks like it could be a 5 or 6 pointer? Has a very full look to him. Only two things, does he have a lot of dark marking on his beak? I know that could grow out (I'll keep my fingers crossed) and I think the tail could be a bit higher, but that is also something that can improve with age.

So, out of those guys, I have a real liking for EC

And doesn't Phoebe's girl look sooooo feminine and sweet! As does the one with her back to us .... she's a bit on the shy side, and asked not to be photographed! I like this bunch, too! I should have enough to choose a good roo from, I am quite sure. I will just keep hatching until I do! A George, a Fred, or an Isaac ... .... ahhhh, I dream of them!

Yes he is mine..got him as a day old chick from a friend that hatched him in her bator..I had only one egg hatch that was under my broody..so I took 3 baby chicks from my friend for brooder buddies..LOL
I think the other 2 are white rocks..the 1 that was successful for my broody was a silky mix...I was pretty sure he was a deleware buts thanks for the quick response.

Kathy your little Phoebe's girl reminds me soooo much of Cannonball, whom we also believe to be a Phoebe girl. So sweet she is...

Kathy, I'm happy to see the second batch of boys colored better than the first, overall. And Phoebe's daughter is very much like her others, very feminine. Ellie and Georgie are my largest hens, then Kira, then Maxie and Phoebe are the least chunky, though, when they are at their full weight, they are okay. I'd expect Ellie and Georgie's kids to be little chunkaroos or chunka-pullets, LOL.

Well, I'm very upset with my Delaware hens now. Ike has been separate for about three days, not very scabby at all. Today, we put him in with them to keep them fertile and a couple hours later, I look over and see one of the girls just chowing down on his wattle and his entire chest covered in blood, again.

Remove Ike, stop the bleeding, clean up his feathers, put him back in the broody pen where he's been living, etc, etc. I'm so tired of this! He is an angel of a rooster and way too patient with those women of his! The boy has the softest, most calm, sweet expression in his eyes while we're cleaning him up at the sink and suddenly, he alarmed loudly. I look over and realize that he's watching that commercial where the pigeons fly through the city carrying computer parts, LOL.

I love that boy, but this is just not fair to him and they have gotten in such a terrible habit now, I'm not sure I want to keep those girls at all. Could be that they would do fine in a completely new environment since they'd be at the bottom of the pecking order in a new place. I am seriously considering sending him to live with Ladyhawk in KY. I would miss him terribly, but either he has to live away from the mean girls or I'll have to sell them all and start over with chicks and honestly, I really do not want to do that. Guess I could let the Delaware hens and a few others live over there in that coop without a man and add a few of the new hens in with them. I just don't know what to do! So frustrating!

This cycle has to be broken. We have enough on our plates without this type drama. And I'm going to need the broody pen this spring as well as the Firetower as a grow-out coop so can't keep putting Ike in either one of those.
