Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Field of Dreams, Kathy- a GOOD movie. So, where IS paradise? And can we afford it if we find it?
Would Dellie mind control be of any use in price haggling?
Cynthia, yup, at least three inches. *sigh* That means more shoveling tomorrow so the Dellie Darlings can go outside and play.

Tacey- I hope you let us follow your hatch- I love living vicariously through all you hatching addicts!

Ha! Ha! The saying in Michigan is wait 5 minutes. I've been on the shore to shore ride and had 30* weather in the am and been up to 80 by afternoon. Now that's some weather.

If I had my choice we would be in Kentucky or NC right now.

Ike isn't having any of that stuff! Tom opened up the broody pen and Isaac went to the double doors, looked around a minute then marched right back inside, LOL. No one wants out, but Suede's group is the only one whose door was left open. They have an overhang and about 3' of dry ground to stand on under it.

Yah, fussy spoiled rotten little darlings- mine are just hanging out in the doorway LOOKING. No one will go out in it. Even after I shoveled an area- OK, there is a light see through layer of snow left because I didn't want to scratch up the grass, but OH NO! It's STILL too much snow for these poopers.
However, Rejectable Roo # 1 has developed a very authoritative crow. Still sounds like a kazoo, but it's got a very self confident note to it now.

Hi there - I've been following this thread for a while now...and feel like I know some of you after reading about you all every day. I'm finally getting some pictures of my two hatchery girls...probably not the best representation of the breed, but I really like them. Whenever I show up at the run door, they are the first ones there...and if I throw some veggie scraps or something they are always right in the middle of the scratching and foraging...I guess the words "bold, confident, curious and friendly" would be good words to describe them both.

I have 10 random pullets right now and this spring want to add 4-6 more...and Delawares are on the top of my list.....would like a couple Welsummers, too..(wellies and dellies

So here they are, Dolly and Della -

I'm not the best chicken photographer, so please excuse the not-so-great pics...But these girls seem alright with the snow..we have maybe 10 - 12" on the ground...After a big snow I do shovel their run out.....last Saturday we had 5-6" overnight and it was blowing pretty hard...When I opened their door they all piled up on the ramp, looking around until one of the dellies waded out in the run...up to her belly in the drifted snow...I shoveled it out so they would all venture out.

BTW - right after I took these pictures, I was back in the house looking out the window and saw a barred rock chasing the buff orpington all over the place...and the orp had something in her mouth flopping from side to side..it looked like a mouse, but I thought it couldn't be... I got my binocs and took a closer look and sure enough, they were fighting over a field mouse!...I think the BO must have caught it!

Those girls are not bad at all for Hatchery stock. Their markings are definitely barring, although pretty light on one of the hens. Leg color is good, wings are held in a fairly good position. Tail black is not too bad. The combs are not too easy to see in most of the pics, at least not on my little laptop, but they are a bit floppy, however that is the last thing you fix when breeding for standard. I wouldn't be too upset to use them as a starting point in a breeding program. Everyone has to start somewhere, and they are not bad. The one with the lighter barring looks to be pretty stocky too.

chickinlickin .... Thanks for sharing your pictures with us! Glad you like the Dellies, too! Happy to have you join us! Hey, you have some hefty girls there! They are not at all small, are they.

Geez, Scott, your picture could be a photo of winter in the northern states! Wow, you guys have really had it this year, for sure. DH is leaving tomorrow for work in New Mexico. Hope the weather is good for him there.

Everybody here went outside today ... in the 40s and sunshine. I have way toooo many roos in my older growout pen, and had to do some rearranging. The boys seem to think they are men now! Soooo, the bachelor pad is now occupied again. BUSY, busy day, after the weekly trip to the feed store!

I am finishing up this hatch (Buckeyes, BBS Orps, and Turkens) ..... AND working on Cyn's quilt tonight. I hope to send mail it back to you in a few days. (PO closed Monday)

Hope you are all warm and enjoying the weekend!
