Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Well, Cyn, you wanted a break from being the "it" girl for Dellie eggs. I think the good man above may be speaking to you. You've been run down, your girls aren't cooperating. I say keep Ike, switch him out and give him some good girls! Put the bad girls into the layer flock with no man to take care of them.

Then here is what we can do for you. We'll all take turns being the "it" person for eggs. We've set up a pretty strong Delaware community here with a lot of folks looking to make a better bird. If you feel up to putting them back together when things have calmed down, you can give it a try. What do you think? I mean, I've got eggs of yours in the hatcher, Kathy has them, James and Scott have them. We can do it for you, keep up the legacy. (Don't y'all love how I'm promising for you?)

I hearby promise that if Cyn has had enough, once I get some good offspring from Helen and Biden, OR get my girls and boys from Cyn up and laying I will do everything I can to procure further addicts, uh...I mean propagate the species of Delaware Chickens in Cyn's honor!

This has got to be the ultimate in frustration for you!!!! Unless you really don't want to breed Delawares anymore, I'd keep Ike and let those girls go to some big Delzilla roo - who has one??? Someone MUST - and then get yourself some sweetie Del hens - but that is just my opinion. (And it's NOT because I want to deprive Cetawin

) On the other hand, I know you keep saying the BR's are your passion and your first focus. .. . . .

It's very hard to know what to do. I adore Ike-you won't find a better rooster anywhere (other than maybe Suede). He is just the ultimate. And I do like the Delaware girls, they are really sweet and friendly and fabulous layers, just not nice to infinitely patient Isaac. The only reason I say keep Ellie and Georgie is that they are the ones Tom loves best and they are all over him vying for his attention. I need to get my flock numbers down some to make my feed bill more manageable or I could keep all the Delaware girls in a rooster-less flock. So many things I could do here and it's hard to know which way to turn, but this is stressing me out way too much.

Yes, the Rocks and Ameraucanas are the ones I like best in my flock plus adorable little Shadow, of course. I wanted to breed the Delawares for awhile and do my bit for their preservation and you all have some wonderful young flocks coming along, so I feel I did pretty good in the time I've had them. And naturally, so much credit goes to seriousbill who has been super generous with her stock, her time and advice; can't thank her enough for all she's taught me. Even she has put her Delaware program on hold for other life concerns, so I think maybe I need to do the same.

I second that!
And let me tell ya ..... I have enough roosters, surely one of them will be nearly as wonderful as Isaac! 8 out of 10 .... what are the chances!

I have been outside all day, beefing up security. That dang hawk came back again, and took another one of my sweet little buff silkies. He went INSIDE their little coop! Found him at the doorway with her. How the .... ??? Well, now they are moved, all inside the breeder barn in a one of those pens, and can't get out. Their little coop and run is now totally covered and secure, and has new occupants. I am just sick over this loss. My buff Silkies are just the best, and oh so sweet.

OMG ... as I am writing this, DS just ran in to say he just chased that hawk off again! It is not a huge one, rather medium sized I guess. ALL chickens are now inside. I have 500 feet of 25 ft wide netting, and just hadn't finished everything yet. It is now a priority, and no free ranging for the time being. What about my big chickens .... the Jersey Giants for example. Can a hawk kill them? My roosters are PO'd, let me tell ya! I can hear them all screaming.

Ok I went to a very big Chicken show with thousands of birds today and not one Delaware.I'm going to take some of mine next year so there will be at least a couple there next year.I would have showed mine this year but they were just a little young I think.

We are going to have to band together and show these birds to get them even a bigger kick start!

Well, I am in on the deal- if Cynthia wants a break, there are enough of us with Ike kids to keep things going. I have no idea about how to do it, of course, but you experienced people can lead the way!!! i can collect eggs and give them to people, but I have never candled an egg in my life!

Now, how do you deter that hawk once it has had chicken dinner? I am SO po'd for you, Kathy, and sad you lost your little silkies!!!!

I would be heartbroken -

James, there is going to be a show in early April in Morganton, NC, as far as I know. No Delawares at the last one.....would mine be too young to show? Can you only show adults? I need Cheyenne to come bathe them, though! Can't you just see the judge picking up one of my Dellies and then sniffing and wondering where the lavender scent came from???

Kathy, the hawk should not mess with a full size jersey giant but remember hawks do not carry off their kill, they eat it where they kill so it is possible on a good dive for it to break a jersey giant's neck and kill. Sounds like you have a young hawk with a nest nearby...like within a mile radius. Hawk attacks are going to go up as Spring comes closer...watch the birds if they are out on range because a hawk will not see you standing right there beside the chicken...they only see the chicken.

HEY HEY HEY

Now Ya'll just stop trying to talk Cyn outta giving me Isaac (and Suede and Zane) I have already drawn up plans for a nice indoor condo, satellite radio with a sun room on it for Zane, some nice BIG women for Ike and a new house and harem for Suede.

I turn my back for one day to play with my birds are ya'll are trying to sabbatoge my rooster adoption (theft). I thought ya'll liked me?

Cyn...do not stress out over Ike...you know I will come get that boy if you want me to. Worry about what you want to do with the rest of the flock...I will always take Suede and his women off your hands giving you more coop space

And that Nora, Charlotte, Shadow and Miranda... See what a great friend I am I will help you thin your flocks

Ha! Ask Cheyenne if she wants to spend a weekend in NC bathing and showing chickens. Jasmine for the pullets and lavender for the roos!

We do like you. We just don't want you arrested for being a chicken thief!
