Hi Cynthia! I have kept trying to think of something to keep the girls from Issacs wattles and comb. Here is a long shot...

What about painting the combs and wattle with the Blue Kote wound spray? That is how I mark my birds for cull. It turns them blue where I spray and it doesn't come off easily. It would take the "red" color away or at least tone it down and I don't think it is going to hurt him, in fact the medication in it may help...?

On a different note, all the Dels are doing good but a few of the girls (not yours Cyn) have barred tails. I might keep them for the layer flock until some of the better ones are big enough to take over and then I can sell them as layers.

Is it common for the girls to have barred tails?

My Big Roo Tex got into it last night with Rocky the White Rock Roo. They are both a bloody mess. I hope they have learned their lesson.

I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner! The solution to Cyn's problem. It's the solution to everything!

First you have to collect the girls. Then you get the Duct tape. Once it is firmly attached and the beaks are solidly closed you turn Isaac loose until he has mated them to his hearts desire!

Then you can put him back in the coop, and if you want, take off the duct tape....that's optional...oh, well I suppose they have to eat......

LMAO Laney. Duck tape fixes everything. *smacks self in forehead* I should have thought of it too.

Rwoman...my Cannonball has barred tail feathers but when she did her mini molt she got a couple black ones in. They cahnge so much it takes months before they get their adult plummage. I would not worry too much right now...give them time to go through their first good molt.

Kathy - she tried the kool-aid concoction.

Blu Kote is just an antiseptic. I've tried it before out of desperation, but it doesn't work for anti-pick, at least not here. What they're biting are the black scabs on his wattles and comb, so it isn't the red that's causing it. I've tried lemonade, thinking the sour citrus would work and it doesn't.

The tails are often barred until they are close to laying age, then molt out and they slowly get their tail black. Gracie's was very much barred until about 16 weeks old.
