Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

My husband has insulted the Great and Wonderful Suede. I tried to show him the Video...and my laptop is one of those teeny netbooks...and he walked away saying it's too small, it just looks like <insert piece of male anatomy here> skiing, I'll have to look at it on my screen some time.

MEN!!!!

Laney

ETA: It's almost enough to make me change my avatar back to Biden! But I'll still walk for Hubby!

Well Miss Cannonball just had ointment put on her beak and the blod has clotted under the peeled back piece *sigh* but we coated the cut and everything with ointment and played with her a bit. she is back in the doggie crate for the night...I will see how it looks in the morning and maybe let her go outside tomorrow since the sun is supposed to shine. Yay. She is such a good girl though..it is sore and she doe not want you touching it but she holds very still while the ointment is going on.

So we are keeping our fingers crossed.

LOL Laney...men do not get it do they? Hubby chuckled though when I showed it to him and said "Suede should never try skiing with those wattles"

I am thinking we vet wrap them then let him go have fun.

Well, that made my morning- Suede skiing was great, but CB peaking out of Cheyenne's skating costume was the best- not to mention the hair on the partner over your DH's face-

Hope Cannonball is all better- I didn't mean to insult Fattie- I know she and Cannonball love each other, but sometimes siblings can hurt each other without meaning to over stuff. Buckshot and crew send their best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Yeah toes are either genetic or incubation conditions, agreed and I've seen both. Usually incubation affects one toe or the whole foot goes off. Multiple wrong toes on the same bird isn't worth the risk of an entire hatch of crooked toes. You only know if a toe is crooked by genetics, incubation or breaking by breeding the bird. I know Algernon broke a toe, I saw him do it and scream as a baby, he was always climbing the feeder and got a toe stuck but he had a sib or half sib in the same hatch with four bad toes, him I culled.

I picked up Algernon today, oh my he's getting big and his spurs are impressive and he says he's too big for momma cuddles any more but didn't fuss any. He's a good guy, great with hens, tolerates the other roos and isn't all that bad when I introduce new groups. Couldn't ask for a better boy, well except for that idiot comb but none of his progeny show the same weird point shapes he has, and no sprigs in the bunch so we're moving on well. Of the roos growing out now, two are now obviously mixes and showing incomplete columbian in a spectacular way and they're HUGE, the two Del cockerals are nice, lack the dad's odd points and are good sized, just not as huge as the crosses. I haven't segregated him and hens for breeding purebreds for certain because he's such a good Rooster for the entire layer flock and the Bantams. Right now he's doing his best to chase off the Cooper hawks of spring and teaching the new generation to watch for them. I can wait to pen him up until the Cooper's Hawks move on. Some of his mixed breed daughters are fairly spectacular in and of themselves. I'll get pics. There's a real temptation to use them, they have a colored feather on the body, kind of pastel brown blue, edged in white. I think they are the female form of "incomplete columbian" I have a problem, they're huge and gorgeous, as well as sweet Dawn and Toad are good birds, social and already get on with the main group of hens, a rarity in youngsters growing out. They'll probably make my mixed layer flock.

I love the egg size and color from the dels, as well as they are meaty enough for dual use. Can't fault that. I have a nice marans pullet going into the mixed layer flock, I may raise a few del/marans and see what size they are for meat. I'll just keep fiddling at it and get the breeder pen set up in April now that I have a bunch of second generation pullets to work with as well as a second gen cockeral coming up. My! Marans eggs are a cool color. Addiction forming.

Good Morning Humans Owned by Delawares!!! Everyone here is doing well this morning....

Cannonball woke Cheyenne up at 5:30 this morning...CB was ready for play and Cheyenne was peeling her eyelids back to open them. hahahaha So, CB now raises cane whenever Cheyenne leaves the room...she wants her in the room with her, watching her eat, playing with her, stopping her from eating articles of clothing and etc etc. Her beak looks okay this morning but just like anything else that has bled, it looks dark and yucky. But, she is doing good.

Beth, you did not insult Fattie at all...most siblings scuffle...but I have been blessed with these three because they have yet to scuffle at all. Even Athena plays nice.

Well, at least Cannonball isn't a roo and getting Cheyenne up at 4:00 am or something-
I think that is great that your three girls play nice- I am hoping mine stay nice that way- I know there has to be a pecking order but I hope it doesn't get too mean at any time. Wouldn't Athena consider herself too well bred to squabble?

Cher- sounds like Algernon is a total Prince Charming roo- he and Ike need to speak to Ike's sons and Algernon's nephews Luke and Buckshot II. Buckshot I still has his manners, but the other two test me at least every other day with this biting thing. It's encouraging that you say he is not passing on the odd shape to his points- Buckshot has a curved point and I have been worried about that.

You know what is really sad? My biggest bodied, nicest roo with a really nice comb has the dark beak and Columbian markings. That stinks.

Good morning to all my favorite Dellie peeps! I can't believe I am the first to post this morning. You guys must be sleeping in!

Anyways, I only have a couple more days till lockdown, and hatch day is the 6th! I can't wait soon I will have some cute little Dellies too. AND I CAN BE OFFICAL!!!!
I candled again last night and saw alot of possible chicks. I don't have the patients to candle them all. So I just have to wait till they hatch. I WILL POST PICTURES AND UPDATED WHEN THE BIG DAY COMES!

As far as my garden, my strawberries are doing great. I will be planting my tomatoes soon. It rained again for a couple days in a row so everything is muddy again. The planting beds are not quite ready yet. So it has to dry out a little before I can drive back there with heavy loads of heavy dirt.

How is your weather where you are?

Well gang, I haven't posted in a while, been busy. But I wanted to share the good news today. After I went out and fixed the fence in the chicken pens, I checked the Delaware coop and found my first Dellie egg!!!!!!!!!
