Beth I am so sorry too! I know it hurts.

Kathy--whoo hooo Del eggs! Ya gonna hatch em?

Germaine .... No, not gonna hatch Delawares. Not for awhile anyway!

I had lots of (Delaware) help today, working on the runs!

Here they are out playing in the mud! See that ghetto coop in the back? That run (temporary) is the next project! I can't wait to have this messy yard cleaned up .... spring cleanup has begun!

That's a good looking bunch of Del youngsters! It's pouring rain right now. I'm sick of it! Always seems to have a wet spell when I have young chicks who are prone to cocci--my soil is rife with it and the wet makes it worse. This is the wettest winter I can remember here.

Ditto that! I absolutely hate this muddy clay soil. To add to it, the septic tank from the guest house gets fuller with the rain, and I swear I can smell it. We had additional leads put in (doubled the length) last fall, but I am just certain I smell it ! I am calling them back out tomorrow to check. I do not smell anything in the coops, just outside near that area, so it has to be that.

I am with you both about being sick of rain. And cold and wind! And to think next month is "April showers"

Kathy--have you had your drain field checked recently? That was our problem, had to replace the whole thing last year. If your grass grows really nice over the drain field, you may have a problem! Our was very green in a drain field pattern.

LadyHawk,

You never leave on time for a move! It's just theoretically impossible! I just really want to see you and your family back together. In my family this is Holiday Season. Some of my family is celebrating Passover, some of it is celebrating Easter. Until you have had a Kosher Easter, you haven't celebrated!!

Kathy, Yay on the eggs!!! They were just making sure they were synchronized.

Well, there is prayer added here for Cetawin to get through that pass and on the way!!

Laney, I think a Kosher Easter sounds fun.... lamb and what else?

Kathy, I may have to take you up on that Turken offer- Ah, gag, no, just kidding. BUT, I did that new thingie about the breeds, and ended up with Australorps, Dels, Javas, TURKENS, ( eek!, gasp!) Orps, RIR and RIW. Why did I get Turkens????????

AND, I think I have four of my Del girls laying. There have been several three egg days lately, but there are four different eggs. Cora's large for a pullet tan ones, Lizzie's little tan ones, someone laying a distinctly speckled egg, and someone laying a pale peach, almost white little egg. I am surprised at the variety from the same breed, but at the same time, that may help me identify who is laying - will they stay that distinct or is this just first egg stuff? I know Cynthia said she can tell her eggs apart, but I don't remember if that is just her Del girls or between all her ladies. Cyn?

Rwoman- did you empty your septic or redo the whole thing? That just scared the pants off me, because mine is in the middle of one of the horse pastures, and last summer I noticed it stayed greener and lusher longer. . . . . .???? And sometimes I can smell it - just faintly. . . . .

I think we are to have a nice week. A full week of nice weather. DH said he heard it on TV, and I don't think he would be cruel enough to tell me if it weren't true.

It's most of my girls, Dels included. Georgie lays a deeply peachy-tan egg, so hers is easy. Ellie's is medium tan, sometimes with speckles and Maxie's is a very broad oval, medium beige color with no speckles. I do know most of my girls' eggs in the main flock, plus Dusty, Smoky and Meg's are fairly easy to tell apart. So, yep, most of them I can tell.

hahahaha .... we must have punched the same buttons, because that is exactly what I got, too! Toooo funny! Well, Turkens are suppose to be good layers, and cold hardy! I guess that's why.

I think I clicked on dual purpose.

I was looking at my new Delaware eggs, and each one is so distinct! I will have those girls figured out soon!
