Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Give that vet a big ol' kiss from us all! Isn't he just fabulous!

Great news!

Hope the Orps are doing well for ya, Beth!

I'm just back from the Poultry Show in Sedalia, MO. (APA- ABA show) My first one ... BIG disappointment! Very small. They said many entries did not show, and possibly due to the one on the same day in Arkansas. NO Delawares, NO Buckeyes, NO Ameraucanas (except 4 Bantam), only 2 Jersey Giants (and they were very small!), mostly all bantams. A gazillion Seabrights!

There were about 4 humongous buff Cochins .... biggest birds there! Mostly Junior entries there. I think only 3 or 4 vendors selling a limited amount of chickens. Quite a few Silkie entries, and they really were pretty.

I just love hearing you all talk about your Dellies. I have just gotten my first chicks--yes hatchery--but my favorite so far are my Dellies. I got 2 Delaware roosters, but I am not convinced that they are indeed roos. Here is a pic of one that I think looks the most rooish of the two at 2 weeks. They are both growing great wing feathers, very little tail fethers, and not seeming to get any comb to talk of. I know it is early, and I really dont mind if I have a hen as I think one of my black austrolorps might be a little roo. The waiting and guessing is half of the fun isn't it?

Hello, welcome to Dellie world - they really are fantastic birds- I hope yours turn out as fun and friendly as mine- what hatchery did you get them from?
I think it's too early to tell on your little ones, but they sure are cuties!

Kathy, I LOVE them, little screamers!!! What do they like for treats? They did not get excited about scrambled egg, and I don't have any watermelon on hand. I need to bribe them to love me somehow!!! By the way, I named one of the black ones Katia, in honor of you! It's a sort of high falutin' version.

Oy, I just had a Dellie rooster returned to me from a friend. He has been fed too much corn.....he's a fatty weighing in at just over 12 pounds.

I'd like to keep him, but he has to go on a diet ASAP or he's gonna die soon. He'd make a nice roo for my layer flock. He's not good for a breeder. Have any of you ever had to put one on a diet for any reason? Think if I just give him gamebird feed he'll slim down before he has a heart attack? OR should we just eat him? He's been hanging out with ducks
