Yeah .... go for the Brahmas!

I wrote in my post up there .... I'm waiting for Cynthia to tell us. I wanna know, too! I have some that are nearly totally white, right now, and others that look like yours!

I have one almost solid white hen...I think if they are throwing the weirdness in the neck feathers she is the culprit...

Cyn will tell us all the answers! I need to get some pictures of my 22 growing out. I can sex them now (most of them!). I wonder about that 99% white thing. I know I have a few of them.

I put my new # 1 roo in with the pullets that are laying. He jumped aboard quickly, and today every single girl had a little trickle of blood on her neck. He is grabbing them by the comb. I hope he gets his act together soon! My poor girls!

Ouch! I hope he does too! Poor girls! Maybe he'll get tired in a few days and slack off them a bit. you know how young guys are...

Cindi, #5, 6 and 7 all look like cockerels to me, sorry. My Georgie has hackles similar to the darker, streaky looking pullets you posted. She has barring near the top of the hackles with almost laced tips on them. And Maxie is almost solid white like your first one, but her comb is really awesome so she stayed. You get variations in the hackles sometimes. Body type wins over all, just remember that. Then comb and plumage, then leg color.

Jeremy, I hope that little man stays sweet for you. Glad you're pleased with what you got out of those eggs!

Oh thank goodness! I was thinking I might have missed one of the dud hens! Cynthia, you are a wealth of information!!!! Thank you very much! I don't care how many cockerels there are...they'll all go to camp anyway

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't still breeding junk. That first hen has DH wrapped around her little toe anyway...he'd DIE if she was a cull

My Dels are all grown up and laying now. I miss my chicks. The girls have turned into ladies who wander quietly and calmly (however they still try and get into the house)

The Roos have gotten their testosterone and are habitually mean to each other and the other roos in the coop. Everyones combs in there are sad looking.

There isn't one hen I don't think is beautiful and I am totally lost about the roos. Their markings are strong and they all look good. They still need to fill out so there isn't any culling to do yet.

I have noticed that two have shorter tails but darker barring. How long are the tail feathers supposed to be and is it ok if they are on the shorter side? Do roos with shorter tails end up with nice long tails eventually or will they stay shorter?

rustyswoman my roo had a short tail, but as he gets older it is getting longer. He will be a year old in June and just now getting a nice long tail.
