Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

That was my next suggestion...have an incubator ready as a backup.

Sometimes those silly girls will sit for a day or two and then decide it's not all they thought it would be.

The ironic thing is that I just set 35 eggs in the bator tonight. So if she does sit for a few days and then get off, the timing will work perfectly with the eggs in the bator! I just hope I have enough slots in the turner and I don't have to set up my 3rd bator for a couple of eggs. (Yes, I now have 3 bators to feed my nasty adiction

and 2 are running at the moment.)
I have 16 chicks that I just moved out side and 20 more in the brooder. Then I have 75 in the bators. It's Spring and time for hatching!!!!!!!! So if I had a broody, I'd let her worry about temps, humidity and turning cause I'm worn out

Obviously not just delawares in the photo. Since I don't know how delaware chicks should look I thought I'd ask the experts. Any thoughts?

The plans for are from a link off this board and I thought the idea looked wonderful because I didn't need to buy anything to make it. Made one and liked it so much we made another one for the turkeys. The worst thing about it is that if you have birds that are frail you gotta get down on your knees to look at them but for regular chicks they run around outside when other ones I raised would have just stayed where it was warm...if I didn't have so many hawks mine would be totally outside and I would just use this. I have a 50ft cord on it and just the other day I turned it off when we were having summer weather-today well it is windy and cold might even freeze.

I have my babies in 12x12 rubber matted stalls works great to keep the dogs from getting them and the hawks, foxes and coons. The chicken houses need a new roof sometime next month we'll get that finished until then horse stalls and tractors.

Wow Lotsapaints, that is so nice looking! Where on here did you find the plans for that?

Froggie71, could you repost the pic? It did not show up, unless I am having trouble with my PC (it has been acting up all day and running slow.)

Here's the link http://www.plamondon.com/brooder.shtml and it is a hover type we made ours out of 3/8 osb plywood because that's what we had and thought it would be more sturdy without extra braces we added a light switch so I could turn it off when it's warm enough in the daytime. Several people said that once I had one I wouldn't use anything else and they are right I love how the chicks get to run around they are very brave and active. I have lights in the stalls on timers for show horses hair coats and the chicks are on 16hrs a day light so maybe that helps them grow more I don't really know much about lights for chickens....I'm going to learn though.
