Cetawin, So Severus has started behaving himself? How is your daughter around him now? Last thing I remember, you were thinking about sending him down the short road to freezer camp for going after your daughter. Glad to hear it sounds like he is learning his place in the world, at least I hope so.

I have gotten my first cock-a-doodle-doo this week, Red, my buff orp roo started to crow on Tuesday. Ellis, my Del makes almost no noise at all, but seems like he is the protector and mediator in the flock. I wonder when he is going to start making some morning noise

Luke and Ultrasuede get along like long lost lovers except in the morning. Every morning, they are grumpy old men, and Ultrasuede chases Luke around the run.

I, too, am glad to hear darling Severus is still with you and evidently being his old sweet self!!!

Tim, I think the title re: the Tux comment has more to do with stuff previous in the thread- if I remember correctly, that is.

OK, I am back- here is Julian the Mighty, who spends much of his day either guarding the chickens on one of the corner posts of the run, or snoozing in his own personal hammock - a.k.a. the netting on the top of the run. He weighs in over 15 pounds; I keep warning him what Ultrasuede and Luke will do if he gains any weight and pops through there. . . .

Ellis is 13 weeks old, and here he is. (He usually carries his tail up much higher but it is hot and everyone is a little droopy)

Tux is a mixed breed hen that speckledhen has...she had 3 sisters which she lovingly calls the poufy head girls...they have some silkie in them somewhere. Kate she lost to a bag of bad feed, Olivia is dying of internal egg issues and Tux suddenly went down in the heat. She is molting and combined with the heat stress...Cyn just does not know if she will make it. They are sweet sweet girls and Cyn is beside herself over the internal laying issues of her BR, Ivy, Olivia and now Tux going down in the heat. She is ready for a break.

Dellie mind control - isn't it funny how they are always in front of the camera? They control you to get you to take pictures of them and ignore everyone else.

I like your pull up door on your coop, too.

Thanks, the front wall up, allows the coop to stay very dry. Even when it rains, the front hanging like that causes the water to run away from the coop and the area underneith stays very dry, so at least they can get out of the muck if they want. At night the large front panel gets closed and latched, and the small door on the right gets closed and latched. I am debating what to do in the winter. I think a nice layer of wood chips and leaving the large front panel down will give an area to get out of the cold. I need to put a piece of hardware cloth on the ramp as the "steps" all broke off or got picked off by the chickens. They seem to do ok walking up but I think they would like a better footing.

LOVE the pictures! Ellis looks great! Looks like you got a winner with him! I saved back 2 little roos, and will get a picture of them.

Beth, Julian is too funny! Our cat does all she can to avoid being anywhere near the chickens, however, she sleeps in the garage on the workbench overseeing the chicks in the brooder below. She is an old cat, and as sweet as the come (and I do not like cats). Her name is Cammy (as she looked like camouflage as a kitten). She is a huge fat ol thing now.

These are the 2 boys I kept. It was really too soon to cull (14 wks), but I had to get rid of some of them.

My favorite rooster, Jacob, with one of his girls. I wish I could get a picture that shows how truely gorgeous he is. Anyway, we all think so...

My #2 roo. He is holding his wings out. It is sooooo hot today!

OH! The Wonderful eye candy. I hope mine will be pretty too. I have three. I think one is male but they are only about 4 weeks old. Its too hot to go out and take picks today until late.
I tried to re-introduce the last broody but Stormy( my orp. roo) jumped on her and started pulling out feathers like crazy. I finally got to her and took her out. Shes his sister and was raised with her. I just don't understand chicken ways. She was very submissive so why was he so hard on her. She was hiccuping when I got her out. I have put her in the transition area where they can see each other for three or 4 weeks then I will try to introduce her again. When I introduce her there will be 5 other hens to go in at the same time. Maybe it will take some pressure off her that way.
Is my roo unigue in this or do all of them act that way. He is really good with me. He had calmed down a lot from this spring and the feathers on my other hens have come back in. Hes a puzzle. Gloria Jean

Gloria Jean I have no idea about that behavior...if it were a hen I would understand but not the roo doing that to her.

Jacob looks so very much like his daddy, Isaac. I'm very pleased with that one.
