Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

hahahaha JoAnn I went up to the corner store in my jammie bottoms and a t-shirt to put gas in the van and grab a donut this morning. The old guys that hang out at the store were chatting me up and asking me about my duckie jammie bottoms. hahahaha

Beth, Lizzie sounds like Hera...very content to be by herself and with her humans. She is gonna be a mess to move outside, I know it already.

Hey...anyone else notice that I feed Scott and then he disappears?

What did I do?

Had baseball tourney Fri Sat and Sun (in this horrible heat) and then my parents came down Sat night and stayed 'til yesterday morning.....I am worn out!!

Just got back from the State Lab (my white rock chicks were dying left and right while I was gone to Cinconnati). Turns out that it was a BAD strain of Cocci (eimeria tenella). I lost all but 1 of the white rocks....aauuuggghhhh.

I turned Sugar and her babies loose yesterday evening. Apparently Sugar is DONE being a mama. She took off to the woods and left "the kids" behind. I put her back in with Pepper and the girls last night and moved the babies to the grow up pen. I let Cora out too and she just led her babies all over the place....she is a REALLY good mama.

All is well here, just HOT. If this is any indication of what hell is like....I'm glad I'm not going. We did get a pretty rough thunderstorm last night right after dark and we needed the water.

Have a great day...

Scott

Jole' that's what I do on days I dont' take the car. I always say I'm going back to bed but I don't. I do know enough not to tell my DW if I do.

Scott this is a pic post and it would be nice if you posted pics of the birds who have names, so we could put a beak with the names. Pleeaasee?

Worn out! DD and SIL have been here for a month cuz she's having a Darcey and having problems. When Darcey gets older she's gonna hear about all the trouble she caused. Not to bad though SIL cleaned my gutters. yeah baby! Course my other DD lives here and she's stressing about it cuz "they have an apt. and why don't they go home"? Me and DW stress about the Darcey and have had to take her mom to the Dr's a few times as has Darcey's dad. I tell you this baby better be cute or I'll be upset after all the hassle and then the kid turns out to be a troll. Then my other DD and her hus are comming and they're rageing against the machine in where are they going to sleep? My office is to small and OMG, whatta hassle. Not enough? My DS and his DW and three wienies are comming from Germany for a visit before they move to Alabama. (military family) So then where do they go? Don't even mention her family. If idiots grew on trees that family would be an orchard! Definitely someone p.....ed in that gene pool. Nuf drama to go around. Think I'll check into a hotel. Sometimes it's nearly enough to make a guy lose his salvation.

Oh but there is one good thing in this whole situation and I married her. Thank God You are really going to wish you were here for her meals. The food will be great. "You don't like it? Next time you fix dinner!" I learned along time ago just shut up and eat it.

Who needs soap operas with this family?

Rancher

bahahahaha you told me you could eat anything.

I swear it was all good...none of us got sick but then again, I have been feeding them for years so they may have a resistance built up to my poisoning.

Seriously, I am so sorry about your babies. Make sure you keep some ampro stuff on hand...because it is my understanding that cocci is in the soil. At least if someone starts getting sick you have the medication on hand to treat immediately.

rancher hicks...darling that is too much drama for me...you just come and check in here...cheaper than a hotel.

Believe me I may just take you up on it. My DW is so nice she'd probably tell me sure go ahead. Either that or she's trying to get rid of me.

I'll bring a lavender and Delaware chick.

Have a nice day folks

Scott- I am SO sorry you lost your white rocks- Cyn says she has it in her soil, too. I take it there is something about the red clay of Georgia? If so, I may get my soil tested - it's pretty much clay here, which I am not used to - do I assume state ag departments will have a soil test available?

Rancher Hicks, Darcey must love chickens- then all will be well!

Oocycsts that cause cocci are in most soils, especially in humid areas. Chicks can develop immunity and usually do by around 10-12 weeks old, but if someone tracks in a different type than is in the soil they've grown up on, they can be overwhelmed by it. The ones who grow up with a broody mama just don't have issues with cocci. All of my brooder-raised ones do. I can't replace my soil so just keep Corid on hand. Contrary to popular opinion, medicated feed doesn't necessarily prevent it and neither does keeping the brooder/grow out coop spic and span.

See I knew Cyn would explain...and there you have it!

Oh lordy rancher I am not sure I can handle another Delaware...the two I have are nuisance enough!

Always into something!

Cynthia, it's not usually humid here in the mountains, but has been recently- is this something that can develop in short term humidity? My kids never got out onto mother earth until they were- gosh, maybe past 10-12 weeks old. Is that too late to develop immunity?
