Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Kathy, Isaac is in the hospital cage, a Great Dane size dog kennel, on top of Zane's cage. He can't do much except stand or sit, can't walk far, has food and water and a fan blowing on him. He's not thrilled and is very confused as to why he's in the room with two other roosters, LOL, but he seems fine. If his toe looks like the infection is subsiding in the next couple of days, I may put him back with the flock, but I want to see real progress with it. He doesn't seem to be favoring it as much as he was yesterday, though.

Amy, you must be describing someone else-can't be me. I don't do anything special except answer questions from my own experience and research and I draw from folks who have been in the chicken game for far more years than I (thanks especially to William, aka Pine Grove, for all your expertise and the willingness to share it)

A wattle sack, huh? I bet that would just rev up those picking ladies! They may even be jealous of his fashion statement.

*sigh* Don't feel bad about selling those Dellie women..my gosh they eat any rooster they are around. Sometimes it is a real shame about biosecurity...I would love to give those three a few minutes with Thor and watch them get the smackdown when they went after his wattles or comb. Those mean ole girls deserve nothing more than a good ole screaming at, standing on, head thunking session.

Just remember the offer please...it is a sincere open offer....we will help you. Serrin is so right with everything you have done for all of us, the beautiful babies we have because of Isaac...it matters to us a great deal what happens to him. Also because you are our friend.

Keep soaking his foot and giving him the pencillin...keep us posted on him please.

Oh no…Cyn you never do anything….never sit and talk to anyone about a beloved hen that is lying down, lethargic, take a phone call about a chicken choking on something, a precious cockerel with a bleeding comb, 2 calls a day about eggs in the bator…precious eggs, Suede eggs that you would not let me pay for, research duck egg incubation for me, offer to make a quilt for me with blocks I embroidered for Cheyenne, bake me two cheesecakes, open your home to me and let me ruin all of your birds with baked goodies, trust me to hold the Suedenator, send me home with more eggs, not accept any money from me for them, invite Beth over so we can meet, answer posts on here offer help, advice, knowledge and sympathy or make a dying breed so popular by introducing the Dellies to us. Make beautiful hand quilted qifts for others just because. AND give me a beautiful Orp girl and a baby for my Thor. Shall I keep adding to that list or do you get what we are saying?

I say we put peepers on the three wenches!

Edited to add: This will make you all laugh. I got home this morning around 2:30 from taking Cheyenne to the drive in for the first time ever...we saw Day and Night with Tom Cruise and then Eclipse. AND we had the baby duckling with us! so much for stuffed animal working the little one has dubbed Cheyenne "Mom" and it spends most of the day and night on her shoulder or mine in our hair...the drive in was no exception. Yes...I took a duck to the movies...thankfully admission for the duck was free

What? ONE duck? Sounds like my experience duck hatching ..... I got 2 out of 9. I don't do ducks. They were my neighbor's eggs, and I sure wished I could have done better. Oh well ....

BTW .... 0230 is much too late for a duckling to be out!

I am so upset about it being the only one...dang it I so wish the other one had not died hatching...at least 2 of 8 would have been better than just 1 poor duckie. I will candle tonight and then I guess turn off your bator tomorrow. It is day 30 starting now.

On a side note to Ike's troubles, Nugget seems okay this morning. Not sure what was up with her yesterday. I did have to remove Shadow from the Old Hens' coop, though. The reason she was there was because I didn't know if Ike would hurt her trying to mate her, but she was beating up Nugget! Nugget is 5 times her size, at least! She wouldn't let her come into the coop without jumping her. That little 1 lb princess is a chickie-terrorist!

Oh good lord I need to bring Thor down there...your women are out of control! The Dellies need the smackdown, Shadow needs a good thunk and I am sure someone else around there needs a thunk too!

What on earth is Shadow doing? Does she not get it....Nugget could stomp a mud hole in her if she takes the mind to...

You won't believe this...just fixed an eggbound Shadow! I went to check on everyone and found her standing on the roost like a penguin, straining and doing these little chirps every few seconds. I could see the egg crowning. Rushed her to the house and Tom doused his fingers with the lubricant we keep just for this reason (even though we've never had an eggbound hen before today) and lubed up her egg and the channel and out it came, covered in blood.

It wasn't really any larger than her normal egg, just more rounded. So, Shadow has been prolapsed and now eggbound and what's next?
