Welcome to Dellie land Cindy! Love the pic of your boy. Wow! Looks like he's going to be a big'un! Any idea of what he tips the scales at already? Have any stories of your boy to share? We love both pictures and stories around here! Never can have too much of either, ya know!?!?!

Kathy they are so beautiful...gorgeous flock!

We have the wayward Cannonball in here getting her hair bleached

aka Cheyenne, Q-tips, Peroxide. Cheyenne is cleaning her little wound, getting blood and DIRT off. CB decided to camoflauge the dried blood with a nice DIRT bath so she is on her way outside now cleaned, bleached and gooped with triple antibiotic ointment on her head. Silly girl.

I also have Faith in the house who was going down in this heat ... she was lying down leaning a bit to one side panting very hard. When I picked her up she was hot to the touch...so into the kitchen sink she just went. She is no longer panting, she drank a little water from my hand and she is currently drying off on a towel in my ergo chair. She is perking up a little but she still will not stand up yet. *sigh* Faith is my little Salmon Faverolle that had a nasty overbite as a youngster and went through the dremel tool treatment. So..we wait and see.

I swear I am about ready to lock everyone up in the coop, turn the AC down to about 65 and leave them in there until September!

Pinkchick....ya gotta get some Dellies, they are awesome!

The heat this summer is horrible.....heat index of 104 friday, 105 yesterday and 100 today. Shoot me now. All the smart girls are hanging near the air conditioner in the shade and drinking the ice cold water coming out of the condensate drain.....

Most of the others are down the hill in the shade near the back fence. I stayed outside working for a few hours, in my carport (so shady) with a box fan blowing and was still ready to keel over by the end of it. I have lots of cochins and of course, they are feeling this heat the worst. Fortunately I have lots of shady areas in the yard......tempted to go out and grab the fluffiest girls and bring them in the house.

Back on topic.....I wouldn't mind a pair of dellie girls to round out my mishmash flock....anyone got any extras?

Just finished up with our county fair. No Dellies there

So glad it is over though as the heat index was 110. We were all wilting, and spraying down the birds constantly to keep them cool. Even had to cancel our Open Poultry show due to the heat. No way those birds could have been handled that much and many ended up going home early for their safety. My boys did well in the 4-H show and hopefully next year we will have some Delawares to show. Unfortunately my broody won't be hatching any out as she should be coming off the nest soon and Ellen is still MIA. Really beginning to worry that something isn't right possibly due to all the heat? Hoping she will check in here soon.

Kathy your birds are gorgeous.

looks like a lot more people are getting interested in or taken in by the Dellies

Kathy- please name them Joshua and Caleb- in keeping with the Biblical names idea, and for two great warriors who had some brains. Caleb is one of my favorite hero names.

I just read the last three pages and can't hardly remember a thing that was said after drooling over Kathy's pics (you have three hens in the juvies that are to die for, Kathy) except Cyn and Cetawin and everyone is as hot as we are, Rennie has a roo with a lot of potential, Froggie went to the fair, Faith is soaking and cooling, Chks needs to stew Red, Serrin is COOL, and Pinkchick and Nellabean must, absolutely MUST get Dellies. My brain is overheated.

SDWD!!!!

I am going to go get the hose and spray everything and everyone down. Including myself. Where is the prostrate smilie with slaves fanning her? And serving her iced tea?

(94) degrees plus +++++++++ the humidity. Poor babies. I went out and put bags of icecubes on the ground in the shade ,a bit of scratch to entice them to go there. They appreciated that. I put out several jugs of frozen water too, Also fresh cold water all the way around again. I sure hope this heat breaks soon. I was wringing wet with sweat before I could get back inside. So far the girls and Stormy are holding up well. The girls still lay really well. I have 9 layers and get 7 to 8 eggs a day still.
I am fighting the stupid rat problem again. They come in through the run. I will close up tonight and set my traps again. They stayed gone last time for over a month when I caught a few. Stay cool everyone. Gloria Jean

WOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Katia laid her first egg in this heat! (Black Orp named after Kathyinmo, from whom I got her in the first place)

Gloria Jean, I am wringing right along with you. . . .is that polite for a lady to do in the south? I thought ladies here "dew" or something like that!

Some women DEW, I plain sweat. My clothes stick tight all over.!!!! I came in and took a shower. Whew!! thank heavens for airconditioning.
I have two eggs in the young hens group today. Humm. I have Misty my spash older orp.( daughter of Suede )hen in there and the other oldest is 17 weeks. She is a mix of Velvet (Megs daughter with Suede) And my big orp Stormy (Suedes Splash son). I guess Misty could have layed late last night and again about noon. They were both med. sized eggs.
Hens amaze me.
They say on Tues we will get a bit of a break in the weather. I sure hope so. We are blessed with cooler nights here than some places. Normally in the summer we get down to about 66 but last night it never dropped below 70. Stay alive Cyn. We need you and care.
Kathy, woohoooooo I am glad your black orp has lain for you.

Gloria Jean
