I apologize for asking a question, didn't know it was gonna upset everyone so much. My gosh, people talk about maran people being hard to get along with, at least they answer everyone's questions without making them look stupid.

Look, Jim, something you gotta know before we go any further: Beth is the sweetest lady on all of BYC that I've had the honor to get to know around here. I'm sure if you took the time to read more of her posts, and familiarize yourself with her style of writing, you'd see how mistaken you are!

Cynthia, I want that little Del chick! She's absolutely precious!

glad they are starting to lay for you. i always wondered what SDWD meant but was scared to ask. so is it really SOCIETY of DELAWARE WORLD DOMINATION? delawares or indian rivers were also called delmarvas because of all the broiler houses on the delaware, maryland and virginia eastern shore.

Rancher have you ever bought a SOP? I know they are not cheap but they have a wealth of information in the first sections and Indian Rivers are right in the book as a recognized cross. I'm trying it as testing my males for what they bring to the table so to speak and for hybrid vigor lord knows the Delaware gene pool is pretty narrow what I can't believe is how much most of them look just like Delawares and act just like Del chicks....I can't wait for them to feather out I'm hoping one of my favs is a girl because I'm going to see if I can cross these back to a Del because my NH have much better tails......I'm thinking that Kathy has the right idea making her own to get a far superior bird....I really want to have some that I can show and win with but I want them to be a real Delaware if that makes any sense. It just makes me mad that somebody crossed the wrong breed in the gene pool when going back to the "root" stock seems to work so well. I might have to get some birds from Jamie those Barred Rocks that Kathy have are so regal and beautiful.......

Sand Hill only has a small flock going by what they can sell so if they had orders for them early they are gone....

I don't remember seeing Indian Rivers in the SOP and they are not in the index. The APA does not recognize cross bred birds. Are you going to Stockton?

The 2010 SOP should be on sale at the end of the month or first part of Feb. The cost is around $55.00 shipped.

I'm hoping to get to really meet you and hoping to find a better New Hampshire Male look on page 59 in the 2001 SOP under Economic Qualities......I did think it interesting that hey put these crosses in the SOP

VERY COLD -20F temp this AM. 15F in the insulated coop-room in the pole shed. Best I can do folks.

Supposed to be colder tonight.

Most of the Dellie girls look ok, but one has the appearance of frostbite in the comb.

At least their feet seem warm.

Love Dellies, but they just are not cut out for our winters. Course, neither am I, but because I have chickens, I have to stay here and take care of them.

Someday....maybe....I'll have beach chickens.
