Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Kathy, I have an EE rooster, Edgar, who sometimes holds his wings similar to how Oliver is holding his wings. I have no idea if this might be the case, Oliver sounds like an easy going roo, with Edgar I think it is a subtle bit of body language. I have noticed he stands broad side to me with his wings very slightly dropped when the hens rush to me for treats and ignore his calls. I appreciate how protective Edgar is of the hens but he is more than a little challenging. Next rooster will be a Delaware!

There are two more eggs pipped and one unpipped.

The wing thing is just that they drop their wings on occasion, depending on what they're doing or just did. Ike's normal carriage is horizontal, but he drops his from time to time, too. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about. They can't always stand at attention, right?

Nice pics there Mrs. Kathy

Ok on the feather sexing deal, I'll do my best to explain how/why or why not is does/nt work in laymans terms more or less.

In order for this sexing method to work you have to know which of the parents were a fast featherer or slow featherer as it is a sex linkable and breed type trait.

So if you have a fast feathering male and breed him to a slow feathering female the female offspring of that cross will be fast feathering and the males will be slow feathering or vice versa as the male parent send their genes to female offspring and female parent send theirs to the male offspring in the wide world of bird genetics.

Theres a whole topic on tadkersons sex link thread on this ( I wish they'd left that alone where it was as a sticky so people would'nt have to search around for it but...anyway there's a little more detail ther about it in the thread.

I guess what Im trying to point out then is, if you don't know the feather growth of the parent stock then you'll only still have a 50/50 chance of guessing which is which by this method.

There I'm sure I missed something but if I did somebody will surely chime in and finish it up or correct me but that's my take and understanding on it, anyway. I do know for a fact it does'nt work on Barred Rocks, atleast the way the lady at the feed store did it about 3 years ago, if she did it that way to everybody that asked her for pullets then she made a small killing off that coup full of Barred Rock roosters I grant you. Oh joy, I love the learning lessons in life. LOL
