As previous mentioned about the crooked toes? While cleaning today I notice a roo that has WHITE legs and feet! I wonder where that came from? I mean ghostly white.

Will wonders never cease!!

I let the Dellies out to free range the other day (for the first time). They had a blast! They especially enjoyed chasing the lil finches, etc, all over the place, lol.

Our ol' RIR roo (and hen) where real rough with the Dellies; he, in particular. So much so, that he was dispatched. It had to be done.

I tend to get just a little freaked out when I see Chief has the girls all the way down to the meadow. That's clean clear out of sight of their coop, and right where a Cooper or a Sharp Shinned could be lurking. One quick loud call brings them all running though.

Ya see, mama doesn't call unless she has a goody to give!

Cyn, those babies are just so sweet looking...but....ummm....errrr.....ummm...I only see 5.

One must be camera shy, huh? That's strange. Never heard of a camera shy Del.

Dave, your girls are looking wonderful. Isn't it amazing at just how fast they grow up? Sorry to hear you had to terminate your relationship with your RIR boy.

Any idea as to why he was being so aggressive towards them? And was he aggressive to all of them, pullets included? Or just to the guys?

Inquiring minds like to understand these things.

KathyT, I just love that picture of your broody girl on her nest. Boy! Does she ever look like she means business!

Stink eye supreme!

KathyB, Yay!

Floozy pictures! I just love that girl, even if she is a very bad influence on highly impressionable young Delaweggers!

Did I tell ya that Cosette still likes to play prison break on those days that they're out in their yard and closed off to the rest of the world? Her butt can't get bigger soon enough! Little prat likes to give me fits!

Ya gotta love her independence though. She knows what she wants and by God! She's gonna go get it! I can never thank you enough Kathy, for her and her mama, and sister Lisette, God rest her precious little soul.

Took two pics and both times, one little rebel ran to the other side of the brooder to explore.

I thought I got all six the second time, but nope, there's always one. I think it ran toward me to see what that camera-thing was.

Hi folks!
A recent convert here, trying to catch up on this thread. Man what a long ways to go. I have read that someone was trying to sex dele chicks by the length of their tails. Was it Rancherwoman maybe?? Anyhow, I was wondering how that worked out? There is a breeder in north Fla. that is offering chicks for sale and they are sexing them by tail length. If that is true, fine, if it isn't true, what will be the futrue repercussions of having a flock of short tailed deles? Will short tailed chicks = short tailed hens?? Appreciate any help. And Cyn, I hope to get up your way soon, maybe you'll have a chick or four available in April? Visiting western N.C. . Thanks Guys, I'm really enjoying this thread. I've read up to 200 posts now, still a ways to go...........stan

Our experiences with our RIR roo confirms their aggressive nature. I have been attacked multiple times. Even the hens seem to have been stand offish and aggressive. The ol' RIR crone just get a beak full of Dellie feathers this morning

The RIR roo we had was an excellent roo. He took excellent care of his single hen; feeding her, protecting her from dog and hawk multiple times, etc. He just was too protective, LOLz...

I was fully prepared, and expecting, to have to dispatch him. I was just hoping that they might get along..... I had been feeding them together, this past month, on either side of the fence. It just wasn't enough, I guess.
