Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Hi, Stan, welcome to BYC! Yes, I may have a few Dellies in April. I will be hatching some chicks in March and may add some Delawares into the mix.

Tail length? I've never had any luck with that with Delawares. The boys and girls seem to develop very quickly. In fact, if I was to be put on the spot, the pullets are usually the ones with the longest tails within the first couple of weeks. At least, that works quite well with Barred Rocks.

I will be picking up five dels from Cyn tomorrow afternoon- will post a lotta pics of them here, along with a video!

Stan- I already recommend Cyn, you should get some dels from her!

Thank you, Nick, that's sweet.

Here is my youngest Delaware, Tasha, age 6 weeks. She is getting some tail black already and is just barely starting her hackle color, but she's still pretty fuzzy yet. Second pic shows her other end, LOL. She's with her broody mama and coop-mates.

Mine will be 13 weeks, tomorrow. They are slowly getting their "adult" sounds. No "real" crows yet from the boys; just a half attempt or two, LOLz.

Well speaking of the broody Del hen of all time - i decided to let her have her fun and"try " her out - as i dont have a rooster and just run a pack of hens - she is now the proud broody mom to 9 fertile LF Cochin eggs - she is happy as a clam all set up in her own little area. Crazy girl - so looks like i will have cochins as well! They are from my best friends chickens lol

Congrats Knox!!! Nine? Wow! Sure hope she has the butt fluff to handle it!

Can you set up an area just for her in that capacious barn of yours? If you can, do it now! Move her and her eggs at night into that area, so that she's not disturbed by the other hens at a later date. Oh! And you might want to fire up your incubator, just to be on the safe side. This being her first time with real eggs and all!

You know the old saying. If you plan for all contingencies, you probably won't need any of those plans!
