we are trying to add the last few pieces of chicken genetics to our flock before closing it. we are going to try not adding any outside blood to the breeds we have (delawares, black australorp, and cubalaya) for the next 5 years. we will get NPIP'ed this spring. if the chance comes to show some of our birds, we might try that. our best looking delaware hen right now came from beth. best looking delaware rooster came from her too. we are in real good shape with the cubalayas and have a good start with the delawares but the australorps still need some work.

I took several of my New Hampshire /Delaware cross pullets to our clubs chicken swap today and had several people in the club who haven't seen my birds comment on how nice they looked and couldn't get over the size they had for being 4-5 months old..... they look just like Dels some though have a little red color leaking thru. I sure hope to show some of my pure Dels at Stockton none of mine are old enough to show at Paso Robles and I only really did test hatches this spring and summer and plan on hatching more this next year....since I just got started last year I don't think that's too bad it does take time to get going and I do think that you will need to have a male line and a pullet line for that perfect SOP bird but I'm just learning and enjoying these birds they have the best personality.

KATHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!! THey are looking great! Oliver has done you proud, if they are his. Are any of them Harter's?


Cubalaya, I am SO glad you got a good roo and pullet- I have three pullets and one roo by that same rooster that I am hoping take me another level u., plus I have "cousins" from Kathy that I hope to put in the mix. See her birds, above!!!!

NPIP testing is easy- and they do the pullorum, Michael. The gentleman here in NC that does it comes out quarterly and they test the basics for free. If you want to be tested for MS/MG it does cost, but it is not required. I have never shown before, either, and have never even given a chicken a bath. The three roosters I am considering taking are all feisty boys, so this ought to be fun. I am pretty sure I will be the one ending up wet.

Lotsa, I would love to see current pictures of those birds- its a cross I hope to do in the future!

Alisha, can you post pictures of Rodney here, too?
