I wanted a chicken ever since I was a little girl and my mom dragged me to a garage sale, and the homeowner had a little gorgeous bantam rooster. I never forgot that, and finally my dream came true. I just found out that my "Ameraucanas" that I got aren't true Ameraucanas, they are Easter Eggers. So far these girls seem to look like true Delawares!

LOL, Ok I guess I was right and wrong hehehe........ I thought the pictures were of the new babies, but I have seen my pullets fluffy butts enough to know that those 2 were hens...... good grief, I will say though that I do for sure see 2 roosters, maybe 3............. now that I looked back.

Where did you get your Dels from LaRay? My roo is a hatchery stock rooster the best 1 of 3 that I got last year and he is the sweetest rooster ever, he comes when i call him and courts me all the time he will get right in my lap if I have something he thinks is food, and is very friendly type guy, I can pick him right up pet him, treat his owies, clip his nails, spurs, since he had alittle accident with 1 of my hens and ripped her side open, he now wears a large cotton ball over his spurs with vet wrap around it after clipping, so it never happens again.......... your hen is lovely better standard than my girls. with there pinched tails and not enough black in there either, but I'm hoping to get some nice pullets from Jim over the summer, I have some eggs in the bator right now, so I will soon see if he breeds a nice baby or not.............. I will keep him anyway because he is so sweet, but if his babies aren't at least true to type, he will be my rooster for my mixed flock of girls and I will be rooster hunting again.....
I think mean roosters must be the norm....... because last year I had 43 chicks 34 roosters, and only 3 nice roos....................of all 34..............

Gosh, I can honestly say, I have only had one mean rooster (one out of a couple hundred). That was a Lavender Orpington. I never gave him a chance to "outgrow" it either. No, I do not believe mean roosters are the norm.

Well I do not have very good luck with anything. I ordered 25 chicks straight run BR, BO, SS, Dels, Wyandottes, 5 each..... they screwed up my first order, send me chicks I never even ordered no BR NO Dels, and 3 of my SS were DOA, then they fixed it 2 months later with a 2nd order so I ended up with 43 total, and all them 34 roosters...... got 1 or 2 hens per every 5 birds mostly only 1.
I only got 2 Delaware hens, the rest I have only 1 hen , except my SS out of 15, I got 4 hens........

Yes the pics were of the new babies but my girls were in the back ground, they are very friendly I also pic them up and they will let me do just about anything to them! The new baby roos are just different, they are nosey but only let me pet them when roosting in the evening? They just seem more agressive than what I'm use to and with my yorkie who thinks she a German Shepard feels she has to protect me when they get to close to me lol the girls and her have gotten into it they actually cut her eye, one on one she can hold her own but when all of them come after her it gets pretty wild lol. I'm sure a roo would hurt her one of the reasons we never got one, they don't bother the lab, one jumped on his back when we first got the girls last year and he fixed that problem (feathers were flying, but nobody hurt!) now they go around him some even lay beside him he doesn't seem to mind that lol. We got them from my boyfriends brother it was a joint adventure he ordered 25 and we took 6 hens when they were 3 months old he ordered them from a special hatchery? because we wanted to have purebreed dels I can find out for you where. We got them because they were a historical breed and wanted to contribute to keeping them around. They have been good birds, I was at the tractor supply store getting feed and saw the Astrolorpes and wanted to try them because they are high egg producers and the colors are beautiful, that is what I have now also. I give eggs to my friends and my doctors they love them also I have a big garden and give stuff away and can. If my new birds lay lots of eggs? I will sell some to help pay for feed. Your roo is very handsome and I think one of mine will be too, the coloring is very much like yours! This year I put some fencing around all 4 of my flower gardens and my vegetable garden also because as you know I'm sure they love fresh tomatoes! The competition last year with them to get the best to can was a loosing battle for me lol and I love my flowers and vegetables! I will share of course but only the ones I choose too lol I've put the word out on my facebook page hoping someone will want them so far one person wants one! Seems not many are interested in roo's? This is a new hobby for us and I enjoy it very much. I want to get 2 female Silkies because I think they are pretty birds also I will put them in the baby coop and let them free range with the others when big enough. I really appreciate everyone information but must admit we were alittle discouraged with so many roos............... but as I explained to my boyfriend "that's the chance you take with chicks" ha ha

So how about my new crew:





Some are already showing barring in the wings, they're only one and a half weeks old, obliviously this isn't one of them. I've got one that wants to pick a fight with my hand when I go to pick them up, it's rather funny, lets hope he/she gets over that.

The black ones are barn yard mix mutts. No trouble telling which are which!

Thanks to joletabey, the eggs made a long trek to get up here to Maine.
