My husband made us 2 coops, one for the chickens and one for the ducks. Our older chickens free roam so our chicken coop has turned into a grow out pin until my husband can get around to building one. We just leave the laying box door open for the girls and they come and go as they need. We don't have to worry about night predators since our dog is out and protects them. The ducks (except 2 Pekings) stay in the coop though since they poop on all my outdoor furniture and fly. Our duck coop is about 12'x40' and I think the chicken coop is about 6'x15'. We just built them around our shed and takes up and a very minimal part of our yard considering our backyard is pretty small, a little over 1/4 of an acre. We also house rabbits on the other side of our shed.

The coop was a kit I bought online but the run I made myself. This was my first ever major build (what I would consider major anyways.) I drew out the design myself and made it happen. I waited WAY too long and needed to get the run up in the 3 day memorial weekend in order to get my sneaky escaping pooping ducklings out of the house. Needless to say I didn't exactly have the luxury to slow down the process and really think about what I was doing once I got going. If I could do it all over again I would have painted to wood first and been more careful about whether I was fastening the hardware cloth to the outside or inside of the frame.

So my question to you all is... is it worth painting the wood now, even if I have to paint over the hardware cloth in some places (I'd like the frame to be white) or do I just say this is what it is going to be?

And a few with my first round of decorations! Because decorations!
