Not exactly diy, but an efficient coop, especially for warm Florida.

It's not a good idea to put fencing on the floor of the coop, chickens like to scratch and may get injured from the fence. To prevent diggers put a skirt outside the coop, the grass will grow up through it and it will disappear.

It will last longer paintedThe coop was a kit I bought online but the run I made myself. This was my first ever major build (what I would consider major anyways.) I drew out the design myself and made it happen. I waited WAY too long and needed to get the run up in the 3 day memorial weekend in order to get my sneaky escaping pooping ducklings out of the house. Needless to say I didn't exactly have the luxury to slow down the process and really think about what I was doing once I got going. If I could do it all over again I would have painted to wood first and been more careful about whether I was fastening the hardware cloth to the outside or inside of the frame.
So my question to you all is... is it worth painting the wood now, even if I have to paint over the hardware cloth in some places (I'd like the frame to be white) or do I just say this is what it is going to be?
