I see. I do think itâs possible that heâs an albino split, and his offspring are albino. However, itâs extremely unlikely. Silkies, especially hatchery quality ones, have been known to have offspring which donât inherit their melanistic skin. Your only evidence for them being albinos is that they have pinker skin, which I would think is very hard to judge. The much more logical explanation is that heâs dominant white and his offspring are either dominant white or silver, or even that they arenât his offspring.
When Iâm trying to figure out what breed a chicken is, or even what breeds might be in a mix, I focus a lot on whatâs most likely. For instance, I could say Popcorn is a Easter egger mix. It is possible that sheâs an Easter egger mix, but it is extremely improbable. For one, sheâs a bantam (and a small one at that) and bantam EEs arenât too common. She also only shares one trait with an EE; her beard. So I could say sheâs an EE mix, but it wouldnât make any sense.
