Show Off Your Games!

Shubin, if you are wanting chickens for eggs, get leghorns. they have the best feed to egg conversion. anything else is sacrificing egg production for something else
if you look around, you can find point of lay pullets for about 5 bucks
they are extremely predator savvy
they would also work for your riverbed feral project you are considering, after 2 years, cut em loose, and get more for eggs. jungle could offer some input on feral projects,
I'm of the opinion that it can't happen, at least in my area, they need at least minimal help

I think you would fall in love with the brown leghorn, here's a photo I lifted from google images

What a gorgeous bird! There is no question that the leghorn will give the most eggs for the money. I have never had the brown leghorn, only whites and I was not impressed with them. The roosters I had were all man fighters and became dumpings. The white hens I had were decent, but became predator food pretty quickly. I don't think it was because they were white either, because two of my longest lived roosters are both white. One is a red sexlink/cochin cross and the other is a red sexlink/pargtridge game cross. Both have been living completely free range without any help for over 4 years now.

My brown leghorns are much different than my white leghorns. The white ones do mot have a brain in their heads, flighty, very skittish birds. When I go in the coop the white leghorns are running all over all the hens, and the brown leghorns are walking calmly through them to approach me. My brown leghorns only become wary of me if I catch another chicken.

Yeah those brown leghorns remind me of a "laying game". I see a few down the street from me and the roosters all look somewhat game from the road, except I know they're not because they all get along. I will definitely consider these.. Thanks

I did a lot of reading on this thread as well as on other websites and I made up my mind: I want some games. I did some planning and I can build another coop with a run attached just for them. I'll alternate days for free ranging, with the games ranging while the other chickens are put up and vise versa. The only concern I have is that I have cats that like to hang around the chickens(they don't harm or chase the chickens) and I'm wondering if the stag will attack the cats.

It don't have to be a game stag to chase your cats, just about any bloodline will chase cats and dogs. Type in rooster chasing dog on youtube and you'll see there are all types of breeds

So I shouldn't let the games range when the cats are out? My other roosters are just fine with the cats. I am more than ok with the games chasing dogs, it'll teach the dogs not to mess with chickens( the dogs are not chicken-trained).

No I was just saying that Any chicken can be guilty of chasing your other pets
