Show Off Your Games!

My first exposure to coon hunting was with this man I'm with now (I was considered a "city girl"). I've been hunting with him numerous times over the years & have helped train pups. For the record, I don't really like killing for the heck of it or letting the dogs fight a live coon but I don't want them getting my chickens lol. As far as the hunting, I just like to sit by a fire & hear them run You might like this...this is Mac that I spoke of.

Gorgeous!

As far as defending ones livestock against predators, I do not consider that hunting. I consider it a fundamental inalienable law and right of nature and survival against which no government can justifiably make a law.

Thank you, he was one of a kind.

Oh I would definitely argue my right to protect my livestock & don't consider that hunting either. Unfortunately, there are other predators that are protected that get fat on our stock. When you spend considerable amounts of money on some of these chickens (games in particular) you definitely wanna protect them as much as possible.

I know chickens do better free range, but I always hate the time of year when my BF turns out chicks & hens-invariably we lose some, but they do look so nice all over the place. Several months ago we found out (by sight) that we're dealing with a fox. Hate it, but nothing we can do about the birds that venture thru/over the fence. No telling how many we've lost. Pretty sure the dogs keep it out of the yard tho.

Jim

So sorry you lost him. I lost my dog in November. She died in her sleep for no known reason. She was a great bird dog and the sweetest family dog you can imagine. Retrieved every dove I downed during dove season.

Yes she was.  She was totally health with no signs of noticeable illness when she died. I found her in her dog house.  At first I thought she was just asleep.  She was only 3 years old. Kind of a mystery.  All I can think of is that she might have had a heart attack.

That is weird...I think that sort of thing makes it even harder, no explanation, no closure (for me anyway). Heart attack sounds reasonable

Jungle, I own 2 chihuahuas, so I had to read your post twice to under stand what you were saying about chihuahaus. Mine are loving little dogs. One of them is rather standoffish with strangers, but, if you allow her to approach the stranger on her own, she will warm up to someone sitting on the couch in a few minutes. The other one loves everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY. She would jump into a stranger's car in a heartbeat.

So, When I read the statement about their bad attitudes I did some googling......... Wow! There really are some very nasty videos of this breed. Shame on owners for not socializing and properly training these this lovely breed.

Foxxy, my standoffish sweetheart!
Nice Chihuahua.

I own a male Chihuahua that is a one man dog. I have exerted great effort to get him to be a sociable dog. When he was 4 months old two of my nephews deliberately misused him, he is 4 years old now and hates them ferociously. I have gotten him to where he tolerates them, but they had better not try anything questionable with him around.
He tolerates all other people, but would rather not let anyone else handle him. He is very protective of our house and especially when I'm at work and only my wife is at home. When I come home he visibly relaxes his protective vigilance. I was very diligent with training when he was a pup and it has been a great joy to us as he is a very obedient dog.
Here he is at 4 years old.

Wow! Nice looking dog. I used to hunt coon with dogs. Lots of very good memories. I can relate to you quite well JungleExplorer. We went through a lot of brush, creeks, briar patches, etc... to get those coon that our dogs treed. I never got into competition hunting, but two of my brothers did. I just enjoyed going out and listening to the baying hounds. I well remember the jubilant feeling when a young dog figured out the tricks that some of those big old boar coons pulled off.
We hunted a lot of swamps and marshes, so we almost always get wet some way or another. Some of those thick cattail marshes sure made it a challenge to the dog if the coon knew what he was doing. My best memories were made hunting with an unregistered red ticked English coonhound.

Did you end up with some white modern game
Yeah I think so... this batch is a mystery batch... but I incubated these eggs because they should be the offspring of my white MG x AG cross that passed away while I was on vacation. He was free range with a bunch of hens, and I found this massive clutch of eggs behind my trash cans.

So if they are what I think they are, they are only 1/4 Modern.
