@birdman55 I've been saying the same thing for years "any dog can be mean" Beautiful dogs & nice looking pen...this is Bluebelle, part-time couch potato, full-time security detail in & outside (along with 2 of our coonhounds outside)-not 100% effective with all predators, but do a good job...just wish they would bay chicken snakesi must say i love my pit bulls....and yes there are trained to keep anything out of the yard...but are super friendly...they can go from a smile to attack mode in a split second if the handler tells them to...![]()

it is def how you train any dog...there is a lady on here that i know that got attacked by a golden retriever or yellow lab...cant remember which but everyone sees this dog as such a perfect family dog....most everything to do with the pit is because of society and marketing of these dogs...you do two searches...one on pit bulls attacks on google and the other on german shepard attacks...and you will see how society views the difference in these breeds...when you look it up for pits you know what your gunna find....when you look up german shepard...you find law enforcement training and handling the dogs...just thought i would thro my two sense in about pits...sorry for being off track...but i have both experience with law enforcement background as well as training pits for 15 years....any dog can be mean...
Jungle, I own 2 chihuahuas, so I had to read your post twice to under stand what you were saying about chihuahaus. Mine are loving little dogs. One of them is rather standoffish with strangers, but, if you allow her to approach the stranger on her own, she will warm up to someone sitting on the couch in a few minutes. The other one loves everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY. She would jump into a stranger's car in a heartbeat.
So, When I read the statement about their bad attitudes I did some googling......... Wow! There really are some very nasty videos of this breed. Shame on owners for not socializing and properly training these this lovely breed.
Foxxy, my standoffish sweetheart!
Sounds about right for California.. I see the same ratios near me (inland empire)... a lot of German Shepherds, Chihuahuas and Huskies... and of course Pitbulls.Go over to any gang ridden ghetto and you will find 9 Pits to one of any other kind of dog
I live around plenty of cholos
There's 3 pits
2 huskies
A lot Chihuahua mixes
Poodle mix
1 American Eskimo
Australian Shepard mix looking dog
And a German shepherds
My gf's aunt lives in a not so great part of Compton and on her street there is a Rottweiler
2 German shepherds
2 Akita mixes
Chihuahuas
And 1 pit

I read your post about culture based opinions... very intelligent truth that many people dont realize. Its hard to tell someone that something is their "opinion" when they think its a well known fact. (I am not saying I am smarter than my wife, but she often confuses her "opinions" with cold hard facts... I am prone to seeing both sides of an arguement/opinion).I know my post went long so the idea that I was talking about "Culture based opinions" got lost along the way. When I said what I said about chihuahuas having the badest attitudes in the dog world, I was speaking in generalities based on cultural perceptions of the breed. In no place in my post did I assert the idea that what I was saying was inarguable fact. I too have known many very nice calm Chihuahuas. I once found a Chihuahua on the street that I took in. The dog hated men, but loved women. We found a good home for the dog with another family and the husband cared for it as if it were his favorite kid. The dog became so attached to him that he would not go to anyone else in the family.
