Can't wait to see how my mug crosses turn out

We have 3 broody hens with chicks based in the yard. By luck of draw all have 6 chicks. A forth hatched off one so we pulled it so hen would go through another broody cycle. Next round will involve 4 hens and there will be a lot less color variation.

My daughter once to raise the orphaned chick which she has commenced to do. She must get between it and all threats including other hens and if need be run them off. She is to give fox no quarter until dogs back her up (she seems to know what I mean). Chick and she go about eating bugs and taking dust baths. She also caught a ringed neck snake which is fully grown. We have a lot of those here. Day before yesterday my son found a little speckled king snake trying to eat a smaller by adult ringed neck snake.

We setting up for some experiments too. White hen really easy to see in dark grass as everyone is hunting crane flies and cut worms.

Tornado action here. Missed home but work got hit. Cleanup duty coming next. Rain here setting stage for difficulties rearing chicks. They do not do well when feet always wet.
Sorry to hear that. I hope everything gets back to normal soon. I went to bed early last night, so I wouldn't be up all night, following the storm and worrying (the usual). Too much rain, too quick this year. No strawberry jelly, the strawberries all rotted on the vine this year. I haven't gotten mulch on my tomatoes and they are getting flooded and filthy. Fortunately, the chicks are in a pen in the coop for now. I need to clear some fence line and this rain isn't helping matters.

My male pup got into a fight 2 days after he got shaved, no defense. Damn neighbor, walking his dog down the road, dog got into the woods right by my property line. My dog got a puncture wound that developed infection, had to have skin cut off, and a big suture on his side to pull it together. 300 in vet bills. Fence is going up and the shotgun is coming out.
