Show Off Your Games!

thank you man, appreciate that info. I saw a pic of baby quill and they are brown base as you said with lil dots on the head. I put my hatch over a hmong hen and a couple of the chicks had similar look black and brown down. the guy assured me there is no quill in her I guess it is just by genetic coincidence.
You can get the quill look without using the breed. Could you post pictures of birds you think are parents?

The white legs in Clarets presumably came from Butcher and/or Albany. White legs seem to have a bit of following with Lacy Roundhead, Albany, Butcher, etc. I think it comes down to what people think is most pleasing. The YL do seem a bit more rare.

View attachment 1813291 View attachment 1813296 View attachment 1813299It’s grown out feathers now but had brown fluff all over. I saw the pic of baby quills a couple days ago and reminded me of this chick but mine is darker.
Chick could easily carry the pattern allele (Pg) causing the barring on the breast. Base coloration appears extended black (E) which is at same locus as the wild-type (e^+). Proper red quill pattern to my knowledge needs (e^+) plus dark brown (Db). I do not know how the black base interacts with pattern in adult but I do recall a darker version of red quill that has much darker down at hatch.

Probably the ones I saw on Facebook. I’ll see if I can find the post again
