Hi Shelley. Talk to him and see what he has to say about the quality. If you beleive him, then you can decide what to do. Does seem a lot for bantams. OEGs will fetch $150 to $200 per bird, if they are unproven, but from good stock. OEGBs are not worth anything like that. Good luck with your picking.........Pop

I have some questions for those more knowledge full (not a short list by any means). My paki assels and the shamo treo that is in the pics are laying eggs pretty regularly probably averaging 6-8 from each pen. They have been segregated longer than a month and I have some eggs in the bator as well as some under some of my Spanish game yard mixes that seem to go broody about every 7th egg. Almost feels sinful to eat the eggs ha ha almost. I am not familiar with shamos or assels before now and don’t know if I should expect them to lay regularly or if these are some of the precious few eggs I will get from them, will they tend to go broody? Also what colors (I know that in game fowl color is a very superficial quality) should I expect the two hens are black. I am not really sure what color the stag is?

They`re looking good, Daniel. Yes they will get broody pretty often, but they do lay a reasonable amount of eggs, usually. The Shamo stag would be considered a black breasted red. In Asils, the darker colors are preferred with black considered the highest quality.

And yes, I am in WPB and getting soaked as we speak. Just goes with the territory. I am leaving next week and probably won`t return until Feb. See ya then..........Pop

I asked a couple OEGB breeder friends of mine, and while they thought the price was a bit high, they did say that these are very nice looking birds. So since I've decided to get them, I guess I can post the pics

I decided to get another pullet as well, but I don't have a pic of that one. Tell me what you think.

Mr. Greg is a nice guy Shelley, a lot of people have his stock especially in the black lines.. It's all about the birds you buy, and what you expect to do with them. He sells mostly breeder birds, so you can't expect them to be perfect to the standard.. From what I have heard/seen, he is a honest guy. Talked to him through emails once too. Be honest though, from what I hear he sometimes uses the same photos over and over on his auctions.. So can't answer on if the birds are the same or not, but people do get good breeders nonetheless.

Well, he sent me these pictures and told me these were the splashes he had available (at least some of them), so they should be the same birds. His auctions say the pictures are of the available birds, but who knows?

Could be, it was awhile back.. So after it came up, he may have started to post photos of the actual birds.. Can't say. Just gave feedback as honest as I can.

FWIW-
I have seen his birds for sale on the Internet for a few years now and I have to tell you I am not impressed. I would give them a B at best and mostly a B- or C. If you are thinking about buying them to show you will be sorely disappointed unless you have no competition.

One of the best ways to check to see if a breeder that shows has anything to crow about is to go to the ABA website and check out Starred wins under their names. From what I can tell Choice bantams hasn't won anything. Next I would ask him if he ever shows or is a member of the OEGBCA, if not then how can he sell birds for as much as he is asking for? I know master breeders that don't ask that much for much better birds, but you won't find them on Egg Bid. There are some good birds for sale at times on the Internet but for the most part they wont be on the auctions.

I know that it is easier to buy birds over the Internet but if you are expecting quality birds and you are not that experienced enough to tell what you are buying, you are asking for a heartache. It is best to go to the shows or just contact the master breeders and go from there.

Just my opinion.
Bob
