The two on the right look good... the one on the left looks she has a weird small face... or is that just the angle of the photo?
If acquired as mixed sex and you want them all to reach maturity, then each rooster will have to be confined separately from other roosters. Alternatively you can eat extras or otherwise get rid of them. A pair or trio would be a much smarter starting point. They need not be adults. Other more commercial type suppliers can also sell games in more manageable numbers.Hey guys forgive me if this has been covered but I dont want to read all 550+ pages. I am looking for good quality American Games and do not want to spend the money on a pair/trio. I was planning on buying Chicks from Rocky Top Gamefarm once they start breeding again for the year. Anyone have any experience with Rocky Tops birds? I think I want Kelso's and Greys a dozen of each. I hope this isnt to far offtopic.
I plan on putting the nicest roosters on tie cords and penning the nicest hens and letting some of the good hens free range. I really would like at least 4-6 stags/roosters on tie cords and have hens to keep them busy during the spring. I have wanted American games for years but have not lived somewhere I could have them until now. The only other place I seen that sells chicks is purely poultry but I am not sure who breeds those or what the quality would be like. Do you know of other places with quality chicks? Or maybe any good breeders in MN/WI?If acquired as mixed sex and you want them all to reach maturity, then each rooster will have to be confined separately from other roosters. Having them out on tie-cords requires exceptional predator control. Do you have that? If not known then get some lesser value birds to start to work out kinks, then get the good birds. Quality is something not everyone will agree to, especially when peddlers are involved. Find somebody up you way that has games of any sort and start there.I plan on putting the nicest roosters on tie cords and penning the nicest hens and letting some of the good hens free range. Something to think about is to have a quarantine pen, area far away from the main yard cause one sick bird could wipe out a a lot of time and money invested. And for new birds as well cause u never know what you're bringing in. And to start I would dome pen everything 1 dog or fox could wipe u out too. And maybe an elec. Fence around the perimeter cause a dog or fox will pull a bird through 2x4 welded wire or hardware cloth around bottom of pen. Can't stress predator control enough. I've had big problems with them.
