I do not think that is an intended use of 3M and would require a lot of work. Too many chicks and too many hens with those chicks. Application process would clobber my armistice with broodies that keeps them out of my face when they get upset.

Sometimes you gotta make do with what's on hand lol anyway if the temps aren't extreme you don't think that ( getting wet not 3M ) would help harden them. Again no pun intended

With the rain we've been having I was sure on more than one occasion thought I was going to the yard solely to retrieve the bodies only to find tattered feather chickens having a ball in the slop mind u not chicks though. What I'm getting at is after the first few days I believe they're hardier than we give them credit for

My normal situation was so hens could move about on totally dry areas in the early morning even when it is raining heavily. Current situation has chicks going through very wet grass sometimes four feet tall. Chicks with saturated down have a hard time thermoregulating even when temperature is in the 70's. This is a problem until they are a good three weeks old.

Oh 4' I was thinking 6-8". Sounds like the only options are either harvest the chicks or pen up the hens. 4' grass could also harbor predators as well

When you get ready to come over bring me a Sumatra will pay you for it. I have been wanting one for years.

Oh and watch out for peeping chicks, normally they are the ones that don't make it. If they pep and peep they are normally the ones that die.

I do assisted hatched when that happens it takes the hands of a surgeon but if you do a partial zip for them 9 times out of ten if I catch it in time they finish hatching ok I did tattoos for years so my hands are steady enough if you hit a vein though its curtains

don't feel bad mines over my head in some places lol mower broke and scissers takes too long haha

I personally do a lot of line trimming around the big pens and elec. Fence and inside cockyard. It's pretty neat to see the youngens run from and the elders run to the trimmer for their treats that are slung into the pens
