Dark version is wild-type (e+) while light version version is wheaton (the mutant). If dark version throws only dark version pullets unless bread to a wheaton, the e^(wh) is involved which is dominant. If two dark birds can throw a wheaton, then e^(y) involved which is recessive. Adult males can be tough to tell which they are but as chicks and juveniles the wild-type and wheatons are easy as pie to tell apart. Wild-types got a good chipmunk stripe with bars on brown flight feathers while wheatons are almost all yellow with wheaton flight feathers with little or no barring.
