I noticed that as well... they should be a slate or green color, right? Their legs look almost pink/purple... maybe just the lighting.Neugene, leg color does not look right for red jungle fowl. you sure they are not games of some sort?
Could someone breed replica Red Jungle Fowl and pass them off as pure? I have a rooster that is pretty close to what a Jungle fowl should be. What would give away that he is not a Jungle fowl? I know they have white earlobes sometimes...Color should be slate gray / blueish in photograph. As pictured legs look willow / green.
So basically I couldnt fool you. lolYou would have body size and sickle feather issues that would betray them in early efforts. The white earlobe and leg coloration is easy to select back to if you have some good red jungle fowl to start from in mix. Biggest long-term hiccup would be on behavior side. The way I raise birds the wildness is not a major problem but the wild red jungle are different in terms of vocalizations, phonetically (way they sound) as well as the number of sounds produced. Somehow we dumbed down the language or domestic birds use. A biologist familiar with red jungle fowl behavior I suspect would be hard to fool. The laymen would be a different story.
Red Jungle Fowl have points, some of their related kin do not. Greens and greys if I recall have the "entire" combs (no points or bumps).Don't they have that straight comb but flat without points
