I hate to say but for ash and shavings I think it's not enough air flow. May be ok with just sand it won't get kicked up cause we all know chicks love to dust

I did not use the ash I used the lump coals and smashed them up and added to the sand I do have the window open on the sun porch but I have to watch that it don't get to drafty. I also put sand in a few of my adult pens its nice wen it rains and its not a mud mess

Seems like it should work if it gets too dusty or whatever then just use sand, but with chunks as in not powdery should be fine. I need to get me a load of sand myself

I did find a 3 foot long black snake under a wooden nest box the other day .I left hem there hoping he dose his work on the mice also wen I was working on the pen next to the one with the snake I moved that nest box and found a nest of mice 2 adults and 10 babies boy do my fowl love the mice. the leiper cock that was in there got right on top the nest and sperd the crap out of them than the hen started to grab them and shake them like a dog shakes a ground hog or a stray cat. o how I love justice this may sound mean but I started to giggle. haha my wore on mice .

Yes sir!
My brother has the typewriters and wanted me to see if I could find some new blood to breed back to them. He spent about 8 months in the hospital meanwhile at home he lost most of the old brood fowl to predators.
Thanks Eric
