Yes, you are correct I could get there with RJF and I have given it quite a bit of consideration. Although no longer an active cocker and now thinking about breeding for color, I find it difficult to get over the game fowl. Who would you recommend I talk to about a pair of RJF? I heard they were very skittish but surely hand raised birds would not be too bad in that regard. I also heard they might not endure confinement as good as domesticated fowl and were more susceptible to diseases. The hatchery I spoke with put me in touch with their supplier who did not even know the color characteristics of RJF.

I can try to get in touch with a pheasant breeder I knew a while back he had Ceylon and red. His young pairs were around 1500.00 back then his breeders were f1 or f2

His pens had a rain forest environment and were about 60x60 per pair.

U may have better luck with an ornamental pheasant breeder they have the exotic real stuff or can get it

I do not think childressj is after wild birds, rather simply wild-type games. Such I now exist but are less frequently seen when color rates so highly with many keepers of gamfowl where the wild-type birds are not deemed as pretty.

To me it seemed from his earlier post the long one he was trying to aquire jf but was having problems locating. I must have misunderstood. What he is seeking IMO he won't find and if he does won't breed true unless it the real McCoy.

I have seen what he is looking for in American Games. We called them simply Blue-legged Hatch and last ones I saw came from a fellow very near Evansville, Indiana about 30 years ago. Those bred true.

I have blue legged hatch both wild and Wheaton but they throw both about 70 wheaten 30 wild

I wish I had the more room to breed and keep chickens... I'd probably be able to produce the "Wild type" .. that bred true with only one or two more generations. So far all my hens are wild colored and I am breeding blue legs like crazy right now. The hardest part would be getting a few hens with straight combs... which isnt that hard.

I tried sending a few eggs to Childress already, but they didnt hatch well... I dont think any survived from what I remember.
