This is Star, she was an Australian Shepherd. She was born willing to please. Incredibly trainable, very protective and loyal. She loved kids and cats. I had her put down when her kidneys failed. I still miss her.....

I have what I now know is a penny hatch/modern game hen who lives indoor/outdoor, and I have never had a more intelligent and people friendly bird. That being said, she is extremely aggressive toward other chickens, she hates them and if she can still reach them she'll go for blood, she even tore half the comb off a BR too who tried to have his way with her. Is this considered "game" or is she just suggestively aggressive? She was also hatched by her momma and raised by her with little human contact for te first 5 weeks of her life, yet she still prefers humans..
Possibly. One way to define 'game' would be too never quit, no matter what. Attacking is no indication of gameness. She may be game or just 'fight crazy'.

I'll tell you what, I like all you chicken folks. We share a common interest that a lot of people think is kind of wierd anyway, so I'll move forward with that. I know this is a 'backyard chickens' gamefowl thread, but I honestly did not expect the same kind of reaction to 'game' animals that you would encounter in the general population, but there is a reason I guess we are here. If we were die hard cockers we would be on a site dedicated to gamefowl. My bad for getting us off topic. I'm here to talk chickens anyway! Saw some nice looking ones posted lately. I want to look at them when I get time, got things to do right now. God Bless!

BTW JShubin good post #10509. I try to get good chickens, but i don't 'test' anything either. I've let chickens reproduce, don't see a problem with that either. I'm currently considering crossing my blacks over some good grey's and making some Black Greys. I don't see any problem with crossbreeding to other breeds either as long as they are properly identified. People have crossed them over other breeds many times, that's where most of the Black Brested Red/Partridge colors in layers and dual purpose breeds come from. That's the neat thing about chickens. If you cross breed dogs to introduce new colors etc, they are not considered pure but crossbreeding is the main way to introduce new colors into breeds and as long as they're close to the standard they are considered pure right? Some people enjoy breeding to standards and some of us like to play around with our chickens, hatching and seeing what we get after all they are just chickens!

I think we all agree games are pretty awesome and inspiring. I was a kickboxer/no-holds-barred fighter for my entire youth and wish I was as diehard as my cocks are. I think I would have been a better fighter if I had owned gamefowl as a youth. (for the record I was a good fighter lol).

I try to breed good quality fighters, even though I dont fight them. I also have my daughter training in jiu-jitsu but I dont want her to pick fights. For me its about natural selection and survival of the fittess. To fight and win when you need to.

I think the dog analogy got out of hand a bit. I dont think comparing the two is fair to etiher breeds. Gameness is something they both possess but only their human owners will determine whether or not unleash that gameness. I keep my rooster seperate so that wont happen, and a good pitbull owner should raise the dog with love and affection so that it never has to see or respond to aggression.

it was directed to the people making comments on how "pits" are and such...there are alot of points i do agree with on what everyone has said...but it all comes down to actually seeing it and gaining knowledge with this type of breed....from the good points all the way down to the stuff i cant even post....it comes down with pits as blood lineage as well as how they were brought up...if you would like me to explain...as im not so good with english...i can try my best ...not trying to affend anyone with there own opinions...just wondered how many people that are posting about pits has actually seen first hand....the good the bad and the ugly part of what society and people have done to this breed thru ought time....and actually being a bystander that was able to see without taking a side....for example....if you know someone that has an actual underground pit bull then you know such things as the tredmil, 55 gallon barrel, a handler, ref....and such which then i know that person has experience and seen for himself what the ugly part is on this breed...if they havent seen anything like this...then all they have is an opinion rather then somesort of merit. on the basis of facts rather then just what they have seen in the neighbor hood or on tv...it just bugs me about this breed certain things...especially if one has actually never been there. as you know this is a delicate subject so i am trying to be as light as i can about it...once you have been on both sides of the spectrum then you can better understand many different things...i have never had any experience with game birds so i have no merit so to speak...
you should get some games. What breeds do you have now?

games have a real bad "underground" scene too.. I have see it personally. My quote at the bottom sums up how I feel about cruelty to animals.
