Looks like they have some brown red in them from the darker coloring on the one chick. ive searched online for chicks that look similar and im not able to find anything that looks like these do.

Brown reds are normally chocolate or black, looks like you have one going to be colored like the rooster (grey) and the other one looks to be a Hatch color (red) hatch/grey cross

These arent my chicks unfortunetly. Just pics of the chicks from the people i bought eggs from that didnt hatch. I really like the coloring on the rooster. I really wish a few would have hatched. I might give it another shot when the weather cools down a bit. I just really like the look and coloring of this strain.

Greys make beautiful cocks. Hatch/Greys especially (like the one in that photo) I like the contrasting dark shoulders against golden blond hackle.

This was my last Hatch/Grey broodcock. RIP He was awesome. I should have bred him more times before he passed away. I only have his daughter.. and Luckily his half brother who was just born this year.

I couldnt agree with you more! It makes for a beautiful cock. This is what i would like to eventually have my own strain of fowl that look like this with yellow or white legs. It would have been nice to have some of those to start as my base breed but not knowing their lineage and not seeing them in action to judge the amount of game these fowl have. I think it might be best to start with pure breeds that i can get the lineage of from the orignal owner so i can breed to make the fowl better as well as breed to bring out the traits i like. and keep the standard the american games are known for. Sheer beauty and performance! what do you guys think? Is it better to buy a line and go from there or make your own cross and breed to lock in those traits that are favorable?

If you want predictable offspring then go with pure breeds. If you want to experiment, then do crosses.

I make my own crosses.. its one of the fun things about games. Trying to keep them pure is kind of boring in my opinion, no surprises. Crosses are just as good if not better than pure breeds (in my opinon), the only downfall is they dont breed consistently (offspring vary) which is cool because you can choose which direction you want to go.

Once you get a few cross you really like, you can set the line with them. I have been breeding crosses for around 8 years and I think I am ready to start setting up a line that is consistent. I think I am going to concentrate on two lines.. Hatch types and White gamefowl.. of course I am going to keep a few of my other colors too.

one of my hatchgrey hens

I was able to locate a gamefowl breeder about two hours away from me that sells hatching eggs. I called him and he has joe goode grey, yellow legged hatch, warhorse, sweaters, and kelso's. He let me choose what breeds i wanted crossed and so i chose a dozen joe goode grey rooster over yellow legged hatch hen and a dozen warhorse rooster over brown red hen. he is charging me 50 per dozen and he said when i come to pick them up and see his birds he will make me a deal on whatever eggs he has in his brooding pens at the time i come to get the eggs ive special ordered.

sorry, but I don't buy it. I'm thinking he will just give you what he has at that time. there are just too many out there whose only goal is to separate you from your hard earned dollars. but I could be wrong too.

since he is only a couple hours away, maybe he could set you up with some started birds.

good luck
