yep Ive bought and sold on Craigslist.
.. I actually have an ad out right now for a yellow leg adult rooster. He was the $10 stag I had bought a while back on craigslist lol.. Im selling him for $30 now, because he has some toe damage. http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/grd/5077952335.html

I screen people pretty hard, and talk to them before I have anyone come over to my house. You can gauge a person pretty good by asking them a few key questions.

I think craigslist is a good option. Some will be good and some wont be good. But at least you get to see pictures and potentially talk to people.

see if the breeder will sell you older birds. age on one side. either a cock and a couple pullets, or a couple hens and a cockerel.

if he is straight, and you are real, he'll want you in his circle.

where are you located? someone that reads this thread and has decent birds might live near you, or know someone that does.

I live in chico ca. Im about an hour south of redding and an hour and a half north of sacramento. Kind of in between both. So i have to update you guys on this gentlemen that told me i could see his farm at first then kinda tried some shady things. Ok so last night he called me again and we had a chance to talk for about an hour on the phone. Maybe you guys can give some input on this but he says he lets his hens hatch all the chicks. I asked him if he gathers the eggs daily and puts them in the refrigerator to keep them from getting tooo hot. He said he just keeps the eggs in the nest. The hens lay an egg and get off the nest right away untill there is about 14 - 18 eggs then the hen will sit on them and start the process. he says the eggs wont go bad hes been doing this for a while now and they will be fine. He also told me when the eggs are ready i can come to his farm and see his birds so he can show me the birds the eggs came from so i have an idea of whzt im getting and the older birds so i can see what he has to offer so i can start saving up so hopefully around the end of fall i can buy a trio or a breedable pair from him to be able to start hatching my own eggs next spring. His yellow legged hatch is not something he has ever sold before in pure form because he bought a trio from this 83 year old man that has had these yellow legged hatch for years and years and has only sold that strain to two different people. This guy being one of them he says he paid 600 for a hen and 700 for his first rooster of the ylh. So he wants 250 for a young pair that can breed next year. he doesnt sell his chicks. so after we talked and he asked a bunch of questions i think he felt much better about the situation after talking to me again so like you said sdm11its all about trust. So everything is sounding like its on the up and up and hopefully this guy will do me right and i should end up with some quality gamefowl lines to start off with. All in all things are looking much better now that we had a chance to talk on the phone. Thankyou everyone for all your input and advice. I do greatly appreciate it.

Everything sounds legit on his part to me. Dint ever put hatching eggs in the fridge. On a counter if collected or just let the hen do her thing and u can add or take away eggs on a nest. Broody hen hatchers myself included do that egg swapping all the time.

I have been looking for a mentor for a few months now. I think once i get some gamefowl and start meeting people in my area that also raise gamefowl i will eventually find someone that will be willing to take me under their wing and be my mentor. But i am currently looking for fellow cockers in my area to meet and get to know. Im a very social person and i love to help others out when i can specialy someone who shows a lot of determination and heart in what they are trying to accomplish.
